Geez Steap you are awfully touchy. Do you believe that there weren't any smart ass Hippies? You should check out some Abby Hoffman, or The Merry Pranksters, Firesign Theater, or even Cheech and Chong. Dodging questions in a humorous manner doesn't make you a fake. As a matter of fact you are asking for a definition of a "True" Hippie. That in and of itself suggests an ignorance of the subject at hand and gives you absolutely no right to call anybody a phony. Also there are a million threads on this forum that ask exactly the same question that you have stated as your topic. The fact that you have also came on here in one of your first posts and asked total strangers to talk to you about their drug use is a little suspicious to most people. Now for a shameless plug: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/...9&highlight=Open+Letter+to+young+hippies&f=12 I admit at 20 pages it is alot to read for one thread. But it gets discussed alot. That's exactly why you didn't get the response you were looking for. It looks like you created an account just to post this, (which you did) and it's obvious. Asking for "true hippies" to explain their "subculture" is like going up to a bunch of gay people and asking them for insight into the real homosexual subculture. "None of you fake gays, I want to talk to some REAL gays!"

Best way is just hang out with us. Oh, and that also means that YOU have to do your own work. WTF???? But....YOU said.... WHAT paper???? Toilet paper? Guess so, amigo. and.... Can't make up your mind, I see. So, how old are you really? I didn't know they had kids that young doing "papers"? Of course I also know sixth graders that act far better than you have (so far).
The term "Hippie" has always struck me as two dimensional, condescending and cartoonish. It does not really describe a generation that turned its face away from the cold war mentality and looked toward a future bright with the promise of new technology and what felt like a new world of possibilities. While we may have been a little naive we were right about almost everything. Still are as a matter of fact...
Like any other label, the person in question is usually just following what makes them comfortable and happy. Being a "hippie" means loving yourself, your life, and everything around you. So does being a hipster, a punk, a prep, or a nerd. People of similar interests come together and bond over these interests, forming the "cliques" that high schools are so known for. Every person has a different idea of what a "hippie" is. None of us really know what any of these labels deem us, it's all vague. The capital interest is to do what you enjoy with people who also enjoy it.
