i think caring about being hip is not hip at all. caring more about the kind of world we all have to live in and create togather, then what anyone thinks about us individually as a person, that is how i would define hip.
Yes! Picture a world where everyone dressed the way they wanted and did what they wanted, no matter how far out it was. I'm not talking about violence or revenge, but rather doing something you would love to do. My mother once said to me, "I would love to dress like a gypsy." When I asked why she didn't she didn't want people to think ill of her. Doing what makes you happy! Now how hip is that?
What "hip" meant in the 60's was "knowing what is really going on, despite the prevailing common wisdom". We were supposed to believe the Vietnam War was about making the world safe for democracy, but we didn't buy that, we were hip.
Hip is what is felt to right to the individual - (although, conscience plays it's part) with "Actions, speaking louder than words"
"Hip" has several connotations: Novelty, rebel, underground, eccentric. I don't like the word much, mostly because it's usually used by airheads.
To me being hip is being in the know, being present, caring for one another, never passing judgment on someone because they think different, taking the time to listen to their views (doesn't mean you have to take them as your own), all-in-all living in the present.
