What is better? To appear cooler than you are? Or be cooler than you appear?

i guess it all depends on how you define "cool." i'm not even sure how i would define it, so i'm not sure which would be better. generally it seems like the obvious answer is that it's better to be genuine than to just appear as such, but then if you just define "cool" as being likable or something like that, the question doesn't really even make sense because in that case how you appear is pretty much the whole thing, and there's no being more or less than what you appear.

that's just boring. i enjoy some competition...

Is this considered to be a form of the Doppler Effect? It seems that the coolness of a person or object appears to increase as an uncool person or object approaches. ;)

    Yes, very astute.

As we can see from the graphic below:
Here we have a basic AntiDean particle emitting waves of UnCool. Note the stationary nature of the particle and the uniformity of the UnCool Probability Wave (UPW).

Next we have a moving AntiDean particle:
Note the intensification of the UPW's frequency at the lead edge of the directional flow. High frequency at the lead, low frequency at the tail.

As we all know Coolness is a high frequency vibrational effect. We know that enlightened (Cool) individuals operate at a high vibrational level as compared to the common man, this is the essence of being "Cool".
When these high frequency Cool Psionic waves collide with the advancing AntiDean probability wave emitted by the source of Uncoolness, The resulting Doppler effect upon the UnCool wave function tends to raise its frequency. Thus the uniting of the Cool Particle Wave (CPW) and the leading edge of the UCW will result in an amplification of both wave functions.

Both the Uncool emission and the Cool emission will increase in vibratory terms:

C = CPW + UCW (when CPWf and UCWf converge due to relative motion of the AntiDean particle and thus cause an apparent increase in vibrational rate)

However, note that is this purely a relativistic observation from the point of view of the moving AntiDean particle. A non local observer will still view the moving AntiDean at a lower frequency.

In other words the Uncool person, when associating with a Cool person will see themselves as Cool, due to their advancing proximity to Coolness.

But everyone else will still see them as a Dork.

In the sixties we called this effect a "Contact High".

In some close-up images, those particles strongly resemble pairs of thick reading glasses, with tape at the center.
