Just wondering, after seeing so many abusive posts today and judgemental attitudes, what defines a hippy. Is it the clothes, the lack of showering? Or maybe the affinity with nature, or even the political leaning towards the left. Perhaps it is being more open minded or seeing what is really important in life?

I also like to know who considers themselves a hippy on this forum (mainly because I've noticed many posts that don't seem too hippy-ish to me)

Its named after a type of toad that was hunted to extinction because it had psychoactive properties.

So you're saying a hippy is defined by how they dress?

There have been a lot of threads attacking people, but not as bad as a few weeks ago (the whole lets-bash-jeffrey week, blarg).

    All's I know is that I'm not a hippy, I'm a nerd with a streak of goth-wannabe.

most people here arent hippies. most people arent hippies. its the way the world goes. the term can mean anything, nowadays people usually use it to refer to how a person looks and cleans and works and stuff, which is wrong.

i see being a hippy as a state of mind, a state of awareness, and a general outlook on life and how you live your day.

its not always the most productive way to live, and many people see it as really lame anyway. or dont understand it. and as well, a lot of dumb or silly people can try and immitate hippyness caus they think its nice or they think tis cool and alternative. in the end, there are still lots of hippies and lots of genuine hippies at that. but most people have unhippy elements.

I class myself as a hippy. but i dont see myself as having the happy, accept everyone, money means nothing, be a vegetarian, etc. so i see myself as a hippy, minus the ethics. i have my own set of ethics that ive devised myself and which constantly grow and adapt and learn.

but being a hippy isnt really that cool, i dont think i know many or any people who are hippies. females seem more inclined in that direction these days it seems.

i think today's version of hippies are the emo and goth cultures. the actual definition of a hippy i think is someone who is an socially disregarded class. a culture that doesnt fit in with the world. hippy culture got boring it seems and theyre jsut seen as fools.

but yejh this is the hip forums but most people here arent hippies at all, its just a funky forum.

I'm not a hippie and I'll say what I damn well please. :D

I find that self-proclaimed hippies are cliquey as hell. They loooove labels. Hint: It didn't used to be about labels.

I'm really fucking sick of threads like these.

Take the dumbass question back to the "hippies" forum where a thread like this pops up once a week.

there are lots of people who don't follow society's standards that wouldn't be considered a "hippie"

I hate this question because there is no answer and half the time people just want to "test" to see how many people are "true" hippies, when really the ones that THEY would label as a hippie, has no idea how to answer the question because they don't use labels in the first place.
