What is a fud?

In America, what does the word "fud" mean?

I just wondered because over here in the UK it means "female gentialia".

I'm watching a program on the telly now about pop music, and it came on a cartoon photo with a picture of a plate with a fish on it, and written on it were the words "fish fud", which made me laugh.

I think they meant "fish food", and I'm not sure if they are aware what the word "fud" actually means, perhaps it no longer means what it used to mean.

You're very likely right, Mcleod. Sounds like a humorous misspelling.

 

dictionary.com claims it could be the tail of a hare, coney, etc. or woolen waste, for mixing with mungo and shoddy. it also suggests 'fuddy duddy' but offers no further explanation.
