my entire life online, i've always been really careful about releasing personal info, etc to maintain my privacy, but i'm realizing now, that i've lost contact with MANY people over the years, because i've moved so many times and my parents, siblings, etc have all moved many times, etc. If an old friend from high school or an old travelling buddy or an old boyfriend or girlfriend or co-worker or whatever was trying to contact me, it would be incredibly difficult for anyone to track me down. I've been back and forth across the continent so many times, i've lost track!

so, what would be a fairly easy way to let people who know me, who are looking for me, find out, say an email address or something like that? i was thinking about maybe making up a webpage with my names, a couple of pictures and an email address. Are there any tricks to make sure that the google spiders will find it and give it higher rank?

    or any other ideas?

Just post your real name here a few times, google comes through here alot and they'll be able to find you that way.

Here's another way. A bit more work, but, it works too.
Get your own website, and name it after yourself. IE: Joe's Website.
And put a picture or two on it. When they search, they'll get a hit with that listing.

ps, i get 421,000 hits when i google my name! is there any way of getting my page to surface closer to the top of the list?

i actually found my neices' grandmother's webpage when i googled my name and a sibling's name. she had some geneology pages on her site.

the more links that point to your page, the higher it gets on google.

atleast i think that's how it works. the more of the internet that links to you, the better.

You are correct about how google ranks pages. If I were to make a site, and you were to make an exact duplicate of the site, then the page that had more sites linking to it would have the higher rating. Our pages could be identical and yours might show up on the first page and mine might show up on the 30th page even though they have the exact same content.
