I was thinking last night and does it anyone else think that the way could be the subconscious part of our minds or the great unconscious which exists between everyone?
The Way is not a concept or thought. The Way is the actual movement of consciousness back to its origin, the Non-Dual Consciousness. How to acomplish this is through the pragmatic techniques of Yoga Tantra, which is the ancient science of consciousness expansion that is said to lead one to the source of all Reality. This is talking of an experiential state of living. The Way is the movement of consciousness to Inner Self, instead of manifesting duality as it's outward projection. Peace, Love, Om. Yogin Jnana Dvaita
Hard to relate that to taoist philosophy. You are saying it's not a concept, then coming out with a conceptual explanation.
maybe it's not a coin, but a marble... then where are the sides? sorry, just the koan addict in me rearing it's head! :chinese:
i feel "the Way" is that which allows you to ask this very question, and post it right here, and me replying, and you reading it , right now, even though technically, i have not answered your question.
A marble still has a top and a bottom, a left and a right, a front and a back, still the same marble. The Ying Yang is probably the best simplified visual metaphore as it demonstrates more clearly the seed of ying being a part of the yang and vice versa. I must admit, i do not know what 'koan' means.
a koan is a story or phrase zen teachers use to undo the mind from the thinking that allows it to believe it can find the top of a marble...another example is the "what is the sound of one hand clapping?" sort of thing... i am not being rude here but i truly could not tell you which would be the top of a marble. however i do not dispute that it is indeed the same marble. this conversation we are having is a koan and i am loving it.
Thats the problem with marbles they roll, i'd say the top is the part that points towards heaven (i love being poetic). The problem i have with the "one hand clapping" metaphore is that it is indeed possible clap with one hand, and it makes a sound. Same as "if a tree falls in woods and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound?" because i find it hard to picture woods with out animals that can hear. Perhaps you have another metaphore?
thing with koans is they are not really meant to be understood. but i will give you my absolute favourite koan, which i have posted elsewhere on hipforums too, and it did my head in when i first saw it: "if you put 2 mirrors 1cm apart in a translucent but not transparent box, what will they reflect to each other?" enjoy!! :birds:
That would be quite a sight, pitty no one will ever see it. in fact, and i know this isnt in the spirit of a koan, i would like to know what physics has to say about that, good night.
thank you  i know, i know, it's off topic but you know me by now BBB i am terrible that way! :flowers:
well you are right, i am sure, but if there was a giant sphere out the front of your house and a reliable source told you everything you wanted was at the top, im sure you'd find it.
