What have you been drinking lately (beerwise)?

Tonight it's Anchor Steam. The two nights before that it was Ommegang Hennepin and Ithaca "Flower Power" IPA.

 

tonight it's samuel adams boston ale... yesterday it was victory brewing company's all malt lager.

 

under aged home brew. I over hopped this batch a bit, but otherwise its a pretty smooth bitter.

 

mmmmmmm smoove bitters...

those are the best..

i hate just bitter yet not smoove though.

( i cannot sp. lately, so sue me)

Fell off the fucking wagon. As usual, my new favorite New Castle is entering my stomach at an alraming rate tonight. Post count will probably sore to new heights too.

 

I usually drink Dommelsch, Heineken, Palm or Bavaria.
As far as 'special beers and trappists' I prefer Hoegaarden, Westmalle and La Trappe.

decent... i like it.

 

Yeah, I kinda prefer the watered down taste. I've tried some really potent ales, and all it does is upset my stomach.

New Castle is my new kick

 

newcastle has some flavour and is smooth but not bittey. is a slight bit nutty though... i deal with it pretty well.

 

I've only had the bottled Newcastle and I didn't like it. It had a really funky, sort of stale taste to it. It might be because of the clear bottles, though. It kind of has that skunky Heineken-like aroma from the light damage. I should try it on tap before I draw any conclusions, though.

 

I would like to try some American beers, but the only American beer they sell here is Budweiser and I bet America can do better than that....

 

To be honest, i dont mind it much in bottles....

doesnt really remind me of Heineken though (WHICH I HATE IN BOTTLES!!!), but on tap, it goes from decent to pretty damn good for something that doesnt cost way too much.

Budweiser shouldn't even be called beer.

Believe it or not, America has some of the best breweries (and beers) in the world. It's just that the majority of Americans have little taste in good beer and are content drinking the watery crap that is readily available almost everywhere. Most of the good American beers are beers which few Americans have even heard of. It's unfortunate, but true. Much of this can be blamed on American marketing.

You can find GOOD American beers in Europe, but they're hard to find, as are the Belgians in America.

that skunky smell is not a purposfull part of any beer. that smell meens the hops are going bad and that you have old shity beer. hops are sensitive to both light and heat. Eather one can cause the hops to start breaking down in the beer. the result of this is skunky beer. old beer is much the same as light damaged beer, exept it gets kind of a cardboard like taste to it

newcastle is a verry good beer, ive only had it skunky once, As the liqure store by my house dose good job at keeping fresh beer.

one of my favorite beers is Old Speckled Hen. but its so rare to find a good bottle, I dont bother buying it anymore. Same thing, it comes in a clear bottles.

 

What I don't understand is: If you guys know that light and heat damage the overall quality of beers, why are they always under the best damn light bulb in the world and right in front of a grill?

If I told the Deli around here to turn his fridge lights off, he'd look at me like I'm from Mars.

 

Probably because most people don't know any better, and if they did, they probably wouldn't care. That's my guess.

It really should be up to the breweries to stop using clear and green bottles, but many companies see it as appealing to the eye for some reason, thus good for marketing.
