I was reading this forum, and I wondered to myself what exactly is classified as a hippy. Now, I don't mean to get deep into this, but I just don't know what people would consider "hippy". See, I've always thought of a hippy as someone who lived life for happiness and love, and the experiences. Not like the norm of people who live life to get money because they believe that it will lead them to happiness. For some reason, to me a hippy just seems like someone completely disassociated with the systematic way of how things work in our society, and just live for their own and their own way. The odd thing is, when I think about this I can't help be reminded of that one movie. I believe it's called 'Freerider'. One of the main points of that movie is to live just to live. The image I think of when I think of a hipppy is very much like that. So, anyway, help me out here. What do you guys consider as "hippy"?
i'm not sure but i think you're thinking of "easy rider". with jack nicholson, peter fonda and dennis hopper? anyways, i think you're definition can work for you. i don't think there is a real definition. we just are. its something you feel inside you. i cannot define it. and i think when people do, they define a stereotype, because there is no way to get everyone included. so don't think to hard about it, just feel it.
i think the only people who can call themselves hippies are the ones who lived through the movement of the 60s. but i see many young hippies today, they just do what they want to do, and not live by the system. the word "hippy" just generalizes the entire counter culture nowadays, imo. edit: also if you were raised by hippies from back then, and you live like they raised you then thats cool too
Who said anything about me being a hippy? I just never really had a set definition for the term and figured you guys'd be more than likely to know.
I don't agree with this. I think that being a hippie wasn't about the times, it was about the state of mind. It was about the lifestyle. I live by my ethics, which are based on peace and love, so, since most people will agree that that is the hippie ethics, I am a hippie, correct?
nathan was i pssising you off on aim? sorry...but i can feel it inside me i swear. and not its not the cannabis i feel.
"Hippies" don't believe in stereotypes. So even if by some odd chance that you fit every stereotypical thing that a hippie would, if you call yourself a hippie you're not one. Because you're labelling yourself which means you stereotyping yourself which is against "your" beliefs.
Yes, I am against steryotipical labels, but all a label is, is a way to describe a person. Like, 'male, female, straight, gay, bi, blonde' thoes are all labels. I don't really have a problem with labels like 'hippie, punk, stoner, goth' as long as they are not meant to degrade someone. I mean, you're just trying to describe their habbits and beliefes. Oh, and yes, you were really pissing me off. You were being a jerk man.
We know we know, but he asked, so they answered. Whatever I do, people seem to call me hippy, so I suppose the term is just generally associated with the clothing style, the political view, outlook on life, etc.; people see or hear these things about you and then associate you with the movement. And then sometimes they tell you to go take a shower, (even though I'm always clean) or go fuck a tree (I only hug, don't worry). It's not a club or anything...I'm tired of hearing the word, really.
I think hippies are people who feels inside that their are real hippies..... In my opinion being hippie is just the way of living...They just differnetly looks at the life..... By the way I am not a hippie..I am only a person, who like's that way they live, loves that music their are listening, likes the cloths their are wearingThats all....But I don't feel like hippie...
it's funny, i've been asked if i'm a "hippy" many times. i just say, "what makes you say that?" and they don't really know what to say. so whatever they see that makes them say that, i guess, is what makes one a "hippy".
Every hippie knows who they are, some portray the hippie lifestyle but run their life like a athiest who beleives their christian. Hippies are the Shamans of organized society.... They understand how to balance the choas of everyday movement, as they guide others through the underpercieved ... the spiritual world, they are but dreamers underneath these blue skies. They are the gatekeepers to the realm of unspoken knowledge, only true hippies are that... No mater the time period.
