I hear that shrooms give that feeling. I haven't done shrooms but I've done DMT and believed that I was God (including everybody else) while I was on it. It was profound. I didn't do a high enough dose to encounter beings though. When people say that they feel one with the universe on shrooms what exactly do they mean?

When I was tripping, I felt that way. The problem is, I can't remember what it felt like.

I personally think it is a cliche.
The Universe is a chaotic mess of compex interactions and endless destruction and renewal...you can keep feeling like that.

I agree, it's a cliche. Which is part of what made the experience so awesome. Such cliches are what sparked my interest in psychedelics in the first place.

    1) The sheer novelty of it all.
    2) The thought of experiencing the sheer novelty of it all.

Are you seriously going to try to convince me that I didn't enjoy myself or something?

    Nope.
I ask, because I assumed you thought the notion of "one with the universe" was a cliche...because:
How the hell is anybody supposed to know what that feels like or if it is even possible.
The cliche to me is: Being on the same vibration, see all know all.
Perhaps you have some more feelings to add?
I've taken a few things that are supposed to "Put you in touch with the universe" etc etc etc...and at the time it felt great, so i'd never say you couldn't or shouldn't enjoy any positive feelings you have.

My point was the notion of being at one with the universe is a cliche because you can't.

A cliché perhaps, true none the less.

The feeling itself can not be described, thus the "cliché" feeling one with the universe.

Basically you’ll know it when you feel it and when asked about it, you will say; "I felt one with the universe" but that won’t really describe it.

My bad for getting a little defensive. :cheers2:

Nope, like I said, I can't remember the feeling. I just remember tripping and saying, "I am at one with the universe." I look forward to having even more visceral experiences with higher doses. I only ate an eighth the first time.

    No worries. :)

Do you know what, I probably thought the same thing myself.
I suppose I don't mind any of the feelings or experiences just when people say such things like that it makes me cringe.
Plus I am a little cynical about it too.

i would not describe the mushroom state as complete oneness, but it is something reminiscent of that. for the first time in my life i didn't feel separate or alone, i felt a part of something big, a part of something living and breathing, me being an active part of a living world. the feeling was profound. seeing the world around you for the first time as something other than dead and lifeless ( i was a stone cold atheist breaking out of catholic indoctrination) was one of the most important epiphanies of my life. it is how i found my spirituality.

you can try and downplay these feelings as cliche but they are an important aspect of the mushroom experience and why it is so attractive. we forget who we are and then we have to remember again and its like a light comes on....

    I have to say; Thanx.

That's got to be one of the best descriptions of the difference between an atheist and a theist.

Once you’ve felt the universe breathe, it’s hard to be an atheist.

I wouldn't wish to downplay anybodys experiences.
All I am saying is, they are but feelings.
You can't possibly actually be one with the universe.
How do we know being at one with the universe is a pleasurable experience?

I have had all the supposed feelings.
Perhaps I did not explore them fully.
But NOTHING is going to make me believe in a higher being - trust me.

this is very true. feelings are just feelings, but it's the insight that is important. to truly understand a living conduit that flows through all beings is to have an important realization about the nature of self. it may not be much more than personal in it's intrinsic value but its a step on the right path.

i disagree with the one with the universe part we are not a seperate thing from the universe we ARE the universe. all the same atoms that were here leftover from the beginning(s ?!), the carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, everything we are are, live breathe, eat consume is the universe. even after we are dead the atoms from some of the base elements of our body will still be here, and when our sun dies and collapses into a supernova it will blast all those atoms out into space to be something else. physically, we are the universe. to say you can't possibly be one with the universe is to deny this essential truth.

I aspire to gain insights...and learn the nature of self...both important.
I guess I get a little lost with: a living conduit that flows through all beings

I appreciate nothing ever really dies...I did mention renewal earlier.
I also appreciate that kind of "oneness"...
So sure, I can and am ultimately part of the universe...
But, I have no idea what it is like to be a cow or a dog or even a hydrogen atom...so how is it likely we know how it feels in this instance?
Perhaps it does feel like you are to some people but if we had a "bad trip" that could also be being one with the universe - who knows?
I'm still a bit cynical about how it would feel to be one with the universe.
Even though I have had a few experiences of my own.

and this is where it gets fuzzy. how do i describe with words that feeling? its not a logical conclusion or a rational insight. its completely intuitive. to FEELthe subtle and permeating connections that everything shares...
its the best way i could put it i'm sorry if the language is cryptic but a "living conduit" feels like the best choice of words... for other people they choose to say they were "at one with everything". its only our minds attempting to label and conceptualize the naked truth that we witnessed : "YOU JUST ARE! "

    so just be. :hat:

That is fair enough...I do understand what you are saying.
But we'll have to agree to disagree.
