I want to see different ideas on what an ideal christian would look like in today's world. I seem to think that it's pretty far off from what most people display.
I suppose this thread was meant to be humorous. (((shrug))) My dear friend Brother Ray, who I consider to be one of the few real Christians out there has dreads down to his ass. He doesn't own a suit. Zen
I always imagine them as old, gray, with a constant smile on their face and condescending hate twinkling in their eyes.
Those are the false Christians. The true ones look like Gandhi and Warren Buffett. Yes, I know. Gandhi was a Hindu, and Buffett is an atheist, but I'm sticking to my story.
Really? I know so many of them--not perfect, but trying. But they don't make a big noise about it, like so many of the latter day Pharisees who wear their "Christianity" on their sleeves.
Every time I've met a sincere and aware seeker of truth, they've never claimed a Christian background or a Christian identity.
"Aware seeker of truth" adds an additional criterion that even Jesus didn't emphasize, at lest not in the open-minded way I think we understand that phrase today. Two of the unfortunate characteristics of traditional Christianity that put limits on truth seeking are the emphasis on correct belief and the exclusivity (one way emphasis) of the religion. Historically, it wasn't a "live and let live" kind of religion. But progressive Protestant Christianity is pretty much over that. I know Christians who are really decent, caring people, and reasonably open-minded. "Aware seekers of truth" might be pushing it, but how many other people, religious or non-religious, meet that requirement?
just the clean cut straight edge look is the image that pops in my head when i think "true christian."
