It is a simple question, really. There are endless affirmations and arguments, but no one ever talks about the nature, the defining terms, the essence of the . . . entity refered to as "God."

Whether one's "faith" is a more or less positive religious belief, or an absolutely negative Atheism, whether one embraces or rejects "God," one's belief refers to something. What is it?

What are you talking about when you say "God?"

    Peace and Love

An endless sea of consciousness, where creation occurs as bubbles within it.

God is neither bad or good, but equal.

This realization occurs with the heart, not with the brain.

People who think will always see with duality. To feel is to feel all things equally.

God, as used in the christian sense, is nothing more but a "status" and a title.

God came after the creator, as the co-creators decided a God was needed. But, the true god is everysingle soul in this ever lasting eternal Universe.

The representitive of the god head IS here on earth. Jesus himself is not coming back, there is no second coming, there is only the presence of the creator stepping into the game and taking control. He is fed up and has watched this reality playout long enough.

It is time for the human existance to realize it's full potential.

God is beyond definition and human comprehension. With that in mind, I'll share my working concept of God as the Mind of the Universe--"a universal presence undergirding all of life" (Bishop Spong), a dynamic cosmic consciousness and vital force that is the Ground of Being and foundation of all experience, that interpenetrates every part of nature and timelessly extends beyond it, and that is the ultimate source of all human idealism. Ponder that!

"God" is the universe observing itself, you are god, congratulations! enjoy :)

ps I think "God" is a confusing label to use, so I dont really use it.

Id rather not go ahead and assume I know anything about God other than that which She created, this universe and the other's contained within and without it, and that God manifest's Herself in different ways to everybody. I am of the impression that when we think of God and when eventually are finished here and go to Her in any kind of entirety, that God will appeal to each individual in a way that they can understand, if that makes any sense. Until we dissolve completley into that sea of consciousness Xexon mentioned, which would have no individuality and therefor no definition.
I guess one thing I can add is that God is the definition of the definition of Love and therefor cant be described, only sung to or cursed at. But considering that I believe love to be the very fabric of our reality, God is Love :D

Ok... i'm not sure i get this... so i'll bring up an everyday situation from my workplace... If a man beats his wife and during questioning the man reveals that his father beat his wife it's what he was taught... the idea is not to judge and label anybody as bad but rather to look beyond the act and help everyone caught up in the cycle of violence?

"God" is not what christianity portrays him to be; an angry, jealous, hatful old man in the clouds watching our every move, who throws us in hell for being "naughty"...
you see, there is no hell.
"God" is Brahman. God is the universe. God is love.

    Lmao.

It's always about Christianity aint it? even in the general philosophy thread....

the only think I can say about God is that God is undefined.

    divide by zero.

I'm simply pointing out a commonly held, incorrect view of God.

Further thoughts: God is: SBWOT (Something Big Within and Out There); SWAM (Superstring With A Mind). The folks I take fellowship with prefer GAM ("Great Awesome Mystery").

Do Christians really see God as jealous? Never heard of that, could you give me a source or a biblequote please? Most of the time it's the people with an aversion against christianity who point the christian God out like that. He did get angry when humans dissapointed him again, very understandable I think.

I for myself like to avoid pinning a definition down on 'God', since I think we will never be sure for 100% what he/she/it exactly is (and it obviously can be dangerous to take assumptions about God and the meaning of it's presence for facts). And I also don't think I need to either. Faith is also a little acceptance without knowing. To me God is a mix of universality, love/connection with everything and perhaps it's a pitstop/end after you die. We'll notice that when we're supposed to, I guess. I don't think it's conscious in a way that he/she will understand our prayers, or will judge our sins and behaviour. If there's a God I think it's too different than us to be fully comprehend by us humans.
I was raised with the christian religion, by the way. I think I believed that Jesus died for our sins until about my 13th. I don't hold any grudge against my parents or christians in general though (except maybe in my early adolescent years ;) ), although their religion is kind of silly to me. :)
