Reading helps me. Exercise probably would have helpted me a couple hours ago. The worst thing for me is sitting in bed with the lights out, when I'm not quite ready to go to bed. Because then I got a lot of things on my mind.
reading is always awesome... play my acoustic guitar if i can do it quietly enough as to not wake anyone else in the house up... but for the most part lie awake in bed thinking (over-analyzing) while listening to the droning of my ceiling fan
warm milk with tea soft music in the background sometimes herbal sleeping pills if im gonna end up ridiculously short on sleep if i dont fall asleep right away (i got some with valerian, use them sparingly and they work really well for me)
Walk the streets with a bag full of dreams stalking young children out to get that midnight candy fix.
Take two tylenol PM, Listen to my 'Sleep' playlist I made for my iTunes, Eat something, Smoke a joint, Go to the gas station...to buy papers, Clean my room (Don't ask me why, but it helps sometimes), Have a cigarette, Have two cigarettes, Have 2.5 cigarettes, or just go for 3 and end up regretting it because it gives me a headache and makes me sweat Other options include... Fishing on youtube until I find something interesting, Read a book, Watch a very boring movie, cloverfield for example. All kinds of stuff. Normally the Tylenol PM and the Joint options are the ones I go for.
thats why I am here..and other message boards. Assuming I am awake not being able to sleep- and not just awake 'cause I have to be up with the kid (as is usually the case) : play with pics in photoshop. blog or write, really inane crap that no one wants to read-no one does. yoga, if I have the energy. read and...well, sex if I can get it,or masturbation if not
I normally just lay in bed until I do fall asleep. allow my mind to wander wherever it wants to. but I can't really remember when I last had trouble sleeping, I imagine I'd go online, put on some music, or a movie, maybe smoke a doobie if I was really struggling. movies would probably be my best option, those things usually put me to sleep even if I'm not tired.
If I'm awake too long, I get hungry and get a snack. Other than that, I just lay there, and try to relax. In extreme cases, I'll read or put on a movie.
oh, productive smucktive... that just stresses me out and then i can't sleep from being stressed about being productive. blech.

I just play a few games on my mobile, or watch a few episodes of Scrubs...maybe have some chocolate milk. If I can get on the internet, I might check myspace, and see if anything interesting is going on in here.
i don't get enough sleep to have trouble sleeping when i do have the chance... if anything my problem is in trying not to fall asleep at work or at my computer... if i am having trouble for some reason, weed usually helps, or else i'll just lay there stewing in my own thoughts until i finally do fall asleep, which almost never takes more than an hour
