What the HELL are the advantages to mutilating a newborn baby's most sensitive area? I mean, seriously? Give me examples, medical proof.

Personally, I'd rather NOT see anymore circumcisions unless medically necessary. My youngest brother's was medical necessary, so I know under what terms it is deemed "medically necessary".

And the "locker room" excuse doesn't cut it because almost 60% of men and boys AREN'T.

I can't have a preference as all the ones I've personally encountered are circumsized...but I don't think I'd care either way; cocks rock.

Do you like the thought of men saying the same thing about your uncircumcised vagina? After all, you've got all that extra skin flapping around down there, trapping bacteria, making you stink. And, of course, if you're used to seeing them with the labia removed, an uncut vagina probably looks pretty disgusting too...

Seriously, genital mutilation is nasty. I would never do that to my child, male or female.

I'll have a complete penis thanks... None of this bits missing business.

My partner is uncircumcised, the first I'd seen that way and I think it is beautiful and perfect and WHOLE. I had only seen cut (well one anyway) and thought penis' were scary looking and horrid untill I saw his... lovely and natural.
It is a physically and spiritually traumatic thing you have done to your child and its beyond belief that anyone would remove a part of their son because they find it superficially disgusting.

Well peace anyways, hope your son someday heals this wound.

Actually most are in the US, just above 1/2, and before the 90's, the vast majority were.

let the ranting and raving begin. These threads never seem to tunr out well.

Anyways, I don't really care, I want it attached to someone I care about thanks. I will admit that flaccid uncircumsized penises look odd to me, but, so do super bleached blondes, it's just a thing.

I prefer uncut. If I had any sons, they would not have been cut, unless and until they were old enough to make that decision for themselves. there is no valid medical reason for it, and I don't buy into the religious reasons, either.

I had both. I have no preference, because I accept the one I love, the way he is. I do think it's wrong to cut just for cosmetic/hygienic reasons. It's bullshit. Like taking all teeth out to prevent cavity.

I HATE the look of a cut penis! The intact one is smoother, has no scar, the glans isn't keritinized, and it retains the rolling bearing action that makes sex more pleasurable for both parties.

There are NO proven benefits to cutting a penis - NONE. Imagine if a guy said "I hate the look of uncircumcised vaginas, that's just gross!" Why should girls have more rights to genital integrity than boys? ALL human beings have the right to keep the bodies they were born with unless THEY decide to make a change. It's their bodies, not their parents. It amazes me that in the US it's totally legal to cut on a baby boy's penis on the whim of the parents. All I would need to do is take my son to the doctor and say "I want him circumcised." and he'd do it! SURGERY on an unconsenting individual with no medical reason, just because I (someone who doesn't own the penis) decided I liked it better? What the hell kind of sense does that make?

By the way, there is no such thing as an "uncircumcised" penis. That word implies that circumcised is the norm and that the "uncircumcised" ones will be cut in the future. The word is intact. My son's body (including his penis) is intact, just the way nature intended. Every single boy is born with a foreskin and every single mammal is born with a prepuce, males and females. It's NOT a birth defect and doesn't need to be tampered with. It causes countless long-term sexual, urinary, and psychological problems, up to and including death.

Actually any surgery has its side affects. However the stats for this are very very slim compared to their benefits !!

But the benefits of it are @ a much larger scale.

Prevents urinary tract infections throughout life, most importantly in infancy

Prevents HIV/AIDS infection and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)

Prevent cervical cancer in female partners of uncircumcised men [IMG]

    Prevents cancer of the penis

Prevents infected/unretractable foreskin and penile skin disease

    Promotes Lifetime ease of cleanliness

I've came across this article, which i would like to summeraize.

There was an aids conference on aug 23/2006.
20,000 doctors, public-health experts and others — including big-time funders like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and big-time crowd-pleasers like former President Clinton. Trying to fight the cure of Aids that affects 39 million people worldwide.

Dr. Bertran Auvert a french academic researcher, suggestes that circumsized men are 60 less likely to be infected by HIV.
An analysis of Auvert's results by an international team, published last month, calculated that routine circumcision of all men in Africa could prevent 2 million new infections and 300,000 deaths over 10 years.

To do routine circumsion in areas with high percentages of AIDS/HIV victims example South africa. The problem with gettng this done is that they live in poor conditions with dirty water and unclean enviroment.. Also men have problably never heard of this method being done and will be apprehensive.
They have also found a cream (found on the bill and melinda foundation website) that woman can inject vaginally or annaly that will prevent the HIV from spreading. This is still under observations.

Two large studies of circumcision and HIV rates are now under way in Uganda and Kenya, with results expected next year.

I understand the argument about safe sex. But however not all people are aware of safe sex, expecially 3rd world contries, where woman seem to be looked down apon, and not equal in status to the MAN.

Hopefully they will find a cure or a preventative measure to stop the spread of this awful disease!!!!

I understand also the argument... How can we base circumsion on 3rd world countries stats.
Just becuase they arent living next door doen't mean that this isnt real. People die daily becuase of AIDS, whether they live in canada or the 3rd world country.

EW! How can you use Edgar Schoen (a known circumfetishist) as a reference?? The man writes POETRY about the beauty of the circumcised penis! He was fired from the American Academy of Pediatrics circumcision forum for being biased towards it (this was supposed to be an unbiased research forum). His website is disgusting and full of flat-out lies.

As far as the AIDS/HIV theory (and it is only a theory) is concerned, it is based entirely one ONE study done in Africa, with grown men who volunteered for it, and it was so flawed and messed up that it was refused publication in every single medical journal the researchers applied to. It is still not published in a medical journal because it was improperly done. The researchers did not account for safe sex practices, marital status, number of sexual partners, etc. They also ended the study a YEAR AND A HALF early when the numbers started to even out. And by the way, no one yet has been able to explain why, if circumcision is so helpful against AIDS, America has the largest population of circumcised males in the world and one of the highest AIDS rates. Non-circumcising countries have much lower AIDS rates, despite the presence of those "dirty, disease-ridden" foreskins.

The sexual preference thing is a load of crap. Sure, a lot of American women will tell you they prefer circumcised, but have they ever even seen an intact penis much less had sex with one? I guarantee the vast majority of those who claim a preference haven't. All they know is that they've heard it's "gross" or "dirty."

It's just common sense - our bodies are born they way their supposed to be. EVERY SINGLE MAMMAL is born with a prepuce. How can it be better in any way to change the innate functionings of a natural part of the human body? Removing the foreskin changes the way the penis functions and interacts with the vagina. 80% of the world's male population is intact.

NOT YOUR BODY, NOT YOUR CHOICE!

    Thank you minkajane.

I am too damn tired to make a useful response to her post, but you already said it better than I would have anyway!

I must say, eyezofanangel, you really should read up on the literature reporting on why people practice female circumcision aka female genital mutilation. Your arguments are really no better than theirs. Would you like your labia and clit removed as a matter of "Men's Sexual Preference" and "Lifetime ease of cleanliness"?

If you bother to look, This site shows the other side to male genital mutilation.
Did you even research the reasons against before you decided to remove a part of your child? I sure hope so and if you did, I guess when it come down to it, it wasn't your choice to make.

Two large studies of circumcision and HIV rates are now under way in Uganda and Kenya, with results expected next year, as i have stated b4. whatever reasons they were cancelled i have no idea, but they are being re-examined.

actually you are incorrect about the number of people with aids as of 2005

Figure 1: HIV Prevalence & Incidence by Region1
Total No. (%) Living Newly Adult
    with HIV/AIDS Infected Prevalence
Region end of 2005 in 2005 Rate
    Global Total 40.3 million (100%) 4.9 million 1.1%
    Sub-Saharan Africa 25.8 million (64.0%) 3.2 million 7.2%
    South/South-East Asia 7.4 million (18.4%) 990,000 0.7%
    Latin America 1.8 million (4.5%) 200,000 0.6%
    Eastern Europe/Central Asia 1.6 million (4.0%) 270,000 0.9%
    North America 1.2 million (3.0%) 43,000 0.7%
    East Asia 870,000 (2.2%) 140,000 0.1%
    Western/Central Europe 720,000 (1.8%) 22,000 0.3%
    North Africa/Middle East 510,000 (1.3%) 67,000 0.2%
    Caribbean 300,000 (.7%) 30,000 1.6%
    Oceania 74,000 (.2%) 8,200 0.5%

If this method could save millions of peoples lives i think your being biased towards circumsion if this could prevent millions of people against aids!
