Just a useless poll to find out really nothing of importance but assists in curiousity. Also if ya dont mind toss in a comment or two about your favorite items to go with the main item. This was gonna be a Thanksgiving deal but shit this is world wide and thats not fair. There are some kick ass things other celebrate too with yummy food.
decisions...decisions... i love me the thanksgiving and christmas feasts the most id say...however, good old fashoned bbq's come in a close second...:cheers2:
I am a wild game person, I love wild turkey marrinated soaked in a light salt water over night. Then rubbed with garlic, onion, sage and paprika. Then as it cooks you brush cooked balsamic vinegar over it that has has a little honey added during its cooking process but very little. The turkey is stuffed with a wild rice stuffing with bits of sausage, celery, onion and peppers. Real mashed potatos with real butter Home baked rolls with honey butter That fruit salad with the whipped cream, walnuts and fruit This sauce made from the drippings that I have no clue how its made but hell ya then the pies, pumpkin and blueberry pies a must.
oh fuck yeah its all good man...ive never had wild turkey before though(only from the bottle )...and i do love me some venison...i had some venison stew my sisters boyfriend had made on halloween:d...you would think that id have more wild game in my diet being as i live in these here hills... oh yeah, and i think that dessert salad you're talking about is called waldorf dalade...i think...
I could so picture you a trapper or mountain man in a prior life for sure. Full of piss and vigor and all. (not negative) You dont hunt so that sorta slows it down for ya a bit. But I bet if ya put out the message you are looking for some the locals will bring it perhaps?
i never thought about aquiring venison through the locals...it does pop up from time to time though...
My Thanksgiving menu, and yes, I make everything homemade because I love to cook, even the cranberry sauce is made by me (which is actually super easy to do), usually consists of: One big fat roasted turkey Harvest stuffing Mashed potatoes and gravy Candied sweet potatoes (or a sweet potato casserole) Corn bread pudding Green bean casserole Cranberry sauce Honey wheat rolls Sweet butter rolls Apple pie Butterscotch pie Pumpkin cheesecake Yes, a lot of food, but I always have a bunch of family over to celebrate and I make sure I send them home with care packages too. My favorites out of all of the above are the turkey and the mashed potatoes! Yummy, yummy!
With a menu like that I would sneak in and say I was a friend of your second cousin twice removed on your mothers brothers side of the sister he never knew he had, then load a plate fast and run as you pondered that comment.
i put beef cause it is our luxury meat, the only thing we dont grow ourselves. we dont acknowledge holidays per se,,unfortunately we always have folks around who expect us to.. we dont do nothing real fancy probably going to have goat and veggies of some sort ..
Haha! My mom would probably start flirting with you and not let you leave, so you wouldn't even need to give me the whole second cousin deal. She's on the prowl for a new man.
Goat is good indeed, if ya let them forage like the local deer they taste simular (or atleast it seemed to me they did) Wild horse is really good too but (shhhhh its a seceret)
Is it true the shrooms are best when drizzled with a little cocaine sauce made of coacaine and vodka? They claim its devine!
In Finland, we always have ham for Christmas dinner. I don't ever eat ham otherwise but the way my mum makes it for Christmas is just so delicious. It's very simple too, you get a huge piece of ham, make a mixture of breadcrumbs and mustard, spread it all over the ham and put it in the over where it'll sit for a few hours (another christmas tradition in Finland is that everyone get stressed about under or overcooking the ham, may not sound like much but we even have radio shows on around christmas time where people can call and give their opinion on the matter.. seriously, it's a big thing ). It's best eaten sliced and cold, with mustard. And other stuff that goes with it and we always have for Christmas are.. sweetend potato casserole carrot casserole swede casserole salmon lots of different types of herring, tomato, garlic, dill.. you name it and we'll most likely have it another fish dish, I dunno what would be called in English but it's slimy, smells horrible.. basically it's rotting fish but it's still supposedly fancy, ewww.. I never eat it. this salady thing with beetroots, carrots, onion, potatos, gherkins, sometimes herring and apple too.. we eat weird stuff, hahah For pudding, we have this thingy made with plum sauce and whipped cream, it's yummy. And we also have Pandoro and Panettone cakes, but they're Italian. And in my family we always get Sacher cake too but that's not a normal Finnish things either. We always spend Christmas in Finland as my parents live there, but we also have some English christmassy stuff, to make my fiance feel more homey I suppose coz he's English. It's stuff like roast potatos, and roast vegetables like carrots, swedes, parsnips, sweet potatos.. then stuffing, roast beef, gravy. Oh and on Christmas morning we have this rice porridge thingy, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon and you also hide an almond into it and whoever finds the almond in their bowl gets to make a wish. Haha I'm hungry now..
none of those options really suit me. if its a special occasion and i have any say in it, the meal will be centered around either really good fish (grouper, dolphin fish, salmon, shark, marlin) or else my all time favorite, lamb! more often than not, though, my parents make the exact same meal for thanksgiving and christmas. never really try anything new, except for the one time my dad cooked the turkey in the smoker also, rabbit stew with dumplings is a special treat:cheers2:
I never have the same things for special occasions....except turkey on Thanksgiving....but that's only because we get one free from the grocery store every year.
i'm excited to have thanksgiving at my grandparents' place this year, cause otherwise it would be the EXACT same dishes as every year. this way theres at least a change of pace. i hope there is salad, though. i get tired of every thanksgiving being nothing but carbs and meat. what few vegetable dishes are served are full of butter turkey. mashed potatoes and gravy. dressing. homemade cranberry sauce. broccoli and corn casserole. and homemade rolls. we have this every thanksgiving, and every christmas, and every easter. on rare occasions my folks will bake a ham for christmas or easter, but i dont like ham. its all excellent, but so fattening and...well, i'd REALLY like a change of pace! at least switch it up every once in a while
