Wondering what some of you are doing for Thanksgiving... And most importantly what are you making?!?! We are having a get together for friends at our house and I am personally making Corn Pudding, Broccoli Casserole, Layered Shrimp Dip, Fried Okra, Better Than Sex Cake, & 'Special' Brownies! =D
my favorite item on the menu is broccoli swiss quiche. my lil bro made his cheesecake, im baking pumpkin pie. my dad is doing 2 turkeys, usually he does one in the oven and the other smoked, but this year instead of smoking the second bird hes going to fry it (scary) my mom works in retail, she has to be at work at 3am friday, so dinner is early this year.
Me too! And I make a MEAN broccoli casserole! Mothers - I've never made quiche but I brought it up to my roommate when we were picking up groceries earlier because I LOVE QUICHE! She said she had never made quiche either, so I guess it's out this year... If you could send me the recipe it would make me really happy though! =D
my dad uses a recipe out of frugal gourmet, but we see recipes, more like a set of guidelines you might say. so heres a basic quiche recipe from cooks.com: BROCCOLI & SWISS CHEESE QUICHE 1 lb. broccoli 1 med. yellow onion, peeled & sliced 2 tbsp. butter 1 Quiche Crust (recipe follows) 4 eggs, beaten 3/4 c. cream 1 1/4 c. milk Salt & pepper to taste 1/2 lb. Swiss cheese, grated into coarse pieces Clean the broccoli and cut into flowerets. Saute the onion and broccoli in butter until tender but not soft. Place the vegetables in the bottom of the quiche crust. Mix the eggs, cream, milk, salt and pepper. Fill the shell and top with the Swiss cheese. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center of the quiche comes out dry. Cool for 10 minutes before cutting. Can be served at room temperature. {i would add mushrooms to the filling, use frozen veggies and put a little bit of cheese in the crust before the filling goes in. then top with most of the remaining cheese, then the custard, then a thin layer of cheese on the very top} quiche is stupid easy to make. basically you need a pastry crust (i buy them frozen, because i super-fail at pastry work. the deep dish ones come in packages of 2, and quiche microwaves like a stoner dream come true) a filling (sauteed first then put in the crust), shredded cheese, and a custard. you can put anything in a quiche. cauliflower, leftover greenbeans, spinach. cheddar. whatever you want. there are so many recipes on the web, but what you really need is the technique, which is perceived as scary. if you are really lazy, skip the crust and bake in single serving bowls. it is a custard after all.
I have a 3 step master plan: step 1, this is important so pay attention: Get absurdly drunk step 2: eat mad food step 3: pass out
Your missing weed brownies in these steps which I would probably add just a bit before you pass out! =D
I'm in the same boat as you, but that's what friends are for! I hope by the grace of some kind of higher power you end up with a weed brownie on Thanksgiving!
