But seriously though, I have no idea any more, is that sad? I listen to music I've always listened to really but don't keep up with the new stuff much.. Time to start coming to the world of hip a bit more me thinks!

Outside of my usual punk and ska assortment I've been listening to a lot of Arctic Monkeys, they're pretty awesome. The XX is pretty legit. Beats Antique sets a nice ambience. Mumford & Sons is actually pretty good and about as close to mainstream music as I can comfortably go. Cunninlynguists are fucking awesome, if you like hip hop check them out. And they are about to drop a new album. EOTO or Bassnectar if you ever have one of those nights with Molly. DJ Cam, mad blunted jazz, highly recommended. The cinematic orchestra. Not really new, but Dr. Octagon is the shit. Jel is good hip hop also. Deer Tick and the Avett Brothers are good indie folk.

 

Cunninlynguists are very good. Their music is so well produced. It's hard to believe they're not more popular.

 

I agree completely. It seems like most people have no idea how to appreciate lyrical hip hop anymore.

They'd rather hear shit like southern crunk style rap, which I can't fucking stand.

Ever heard the solo work from Kno? This came out in 2010. While the lyrics sometimes leave something to be desired, the production and beats are really, really good.

The newest album I bought and liked was Gnarles Barkley "St. Elsewhere" and that was a long time ago. I really dig Cage the Elephant as well

I'll dig some bands and singles, but I quit reading Rolling Stone years ago. I just don't listen to much new stuff anymore. At the last job I worked at I made a good friend who was 17 and he liked all the same shit I did. His playlist didn't have anything that I never heard. In this digital age there are so many choices and avenues to get music I don't even think the kids got it figured out yet.
