Actually hitler's religion was a mix of old time European Paganism, Nordic mythology, and plain old acid trip craziness (he thought that the germans were descendants of people who came to earth on an ice-comet, built Atlantis, and then hid in the rain forests). Those are the death throws of the Priest Class. Since the renessaince mankind has stopped looking for answers in holy texts and in the skies, instead he relies on that which he observes and that which he can predict. And y'know what, it's a hell of a lot more accurate than any of the mumbo-jumbo that the priest class could ever come up with. Since the dawn of civilization the Priests have ruled over people, healed them, forgave them, and burned them to death. But in this modern world all their old duties have been taken over. We listen to scientists to learn how the world formed, how species came and went, and where we came from. Although some people still subscribe to the literal teachings of their religions, they are dwindling. (who really thinks that when it thunders it's because thor is hammering, or that satan is angry, or that god is taking his shoes off) We elect politicians to rule, we vote for judges to judge. We confess to psychologists and psychiatrists; we are healed by doctors. We have lawers to settle disputes, and electric chairs to sacrafice. All priests (I don't mean just catholic priests, any leader in any religion) can do now is grumble about their fallen status, and offer some "spiritual advice" (bullshit). They know their time is passing, and they are angry.
There's this old Hymn that has a chorus that says "They will know we are Christians by our love". Jesus said to "Love your enemy" and "Love one another as I have loved you". These people are just like the Pharisees of Jesus's time whom Jesus called "Whitewashed tombs". If I remember correctly Jimm Swaggart was busted for soliciting and visiting hookers.
