The one thing that is interesting this year is best original score

Ennio Morricone is up against John Williams

As usual I only saw 2 of the Oscar nominated movies, The Hateful Eight and Mad Max, but I intend on seeing the Revenant and the Martian when they come out on DVD.

I have to say what peeves me about this year

How does something like The Martian get a couple noms in the important categories, whereas Star Wars doesnt? The Martian was sci fi, kind of ridiculous towards the end, and hardly original

Why does the Academy seem to be such nuthuggers for Damon and Affleck?

I terms of props(vehicles) and stunts Fury Road was a great film, but story wise, I dont see how it gets a mention for best film

Room is another one on the list Ive sat through, I dont see how the hell that gets up there

I LOVED "Spotlight". It has some of the most flawless acting I've ever seen in my life, and it's all based on actual events. It is my pick for best picture this year.

I haven't seen "Room" yet, but I have the book, which I'm planning on reading as soon as I'm done with my current, and then I'll watch the movie.

I'm going to see "The Revenant" this Friday. Not too psyched about it, though.

I agree with you about the Martian and no Star Wars.....WTH! I never heard of the Martian before this thread.....The only thing on your list that made me lighten up was seeing Dicapprio's name, although I have no interest in seeing a film about fur trapping.....
It is all just a 3 ring circus....where anyone just wants to talk about what anyone else is wearing......no class or dignity, anymore in much of it.

I will watch if I have nothing else to watch or do then....snooze fest anyway.

Might go see The Revenant tomorrow night.....I was told to go see it...beautifully done.....Leonardo is stellar....man and nature.....and is supposed to be awesome...i first want to research and make sure there was no hurting any animals in the making of the film....though.

i dont remember actual hunting but they are trappers and fur traders

even if there was i think the bear attack makes up for it and evens out the score
