Here's one for you from the same source, which is the Gospel of Thomas: 114. "Simon Peter said to them: Let Mariham go out from among us, for women are not worthy of the life. Jesus said: Look, I will lead her that I may make her male, in order that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every woman who makes herself male will enter into the kingdom of heaven." 'Splain that one to the ladies. And here I thought it was mainstream Christians who were supposed to be misogynists!

Or 7:"Jesus said: Blessed is the lion which the man shall eat, and the lion become man; and cursed is the man whom the lion shall eat, and the lion become man." Say, what?

Or 22; "Jesus said to them, "When you make the two one, and when you make the inside as the outside, and the outside as the inside, and the upper side as the lower; and when you make the male and the female into a single one, that the male be not male and the female female; when you make eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then shall you enter [the kingdom]." Sounds sensible, eh?.

Or 70 :"Jesus said: 'If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.'"

Or try these on for size:

From the Gospel of Philip,James M. Robinson, editor, The Nag Hammadi Library, p. 146). "God is a dyer. As the good dyes, which are called 'true,' dissolve with the things dyed in them, so it is with those whom God has dyed. Since his dyes are immortal, they become immortal by means of his colors. Now God dips what he dips in water."

From the The Gospel of the Egyptians III, 2 and IV, 2: "Domedon Doxomedon came forth, the aeon of the aeons…..iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu eee eeeeeeeeeee aaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa oooooooooooo ooooooooooo." (The Nag Hammadi Library, p. 210).

Vast, man! Vast! But beware the brown acid!

  2. It's easy to explain. Jesus was being sarcastic and hilarious to make his disciples look dumb.
