Weizenbocks are strong, unfiltered, German wheat ales, which feature the use of dark Bavarian malts. These beers have a strong, sweet malt profile, coupled with a musty, yeasty, fruity character and aroma akin to raspberries. They are typically medium to full-bodied beers, and they often have an alcohol content of around 8-9% by volume. My favorite beer of this style is Aventinus Weizenbock, which is considered the original weizenbock from Germany, and also considered by many to be the best weizenbock available. There is also a fantastic, seasonal weizenbock made by a small, American craft brewery in Pennsylvania (Victory Brewing Co.), called Moonglow Weizenbock -- which is a few dollars cheaper than the Aventinus (which costs about $4.00 a bottle), but nearly the same quality. I think $12.00 for a six pack of beer this good is well worth it! Is anyone familiar with this style of beer? If not, give it a try sometime if you're out at a bar which actually has a decent selection. But beware, this beer will kick your ass if not respected.
Oh yes, Victory Moonglow. Now that I'm living in FL, I guess I have to say goodbye to the Victory family of beers. Moonglow worked its magic last fall. Oh, the times we had together, most of which I don't remember clearly. That stuff'll definitely sneak up on you. Glory be.
Yeah, I can't tell you how many times I've awoken the morning after indulging in this beer, not remembering half the night. *lol*
The Aventinus Weizenbock is by far my favorite and is a major fixture in my diet If you get a chance to order one on draft, be patient because its a ten minute pour
