I am required to wear shoes instead of sandals or going barefoot at my job here in Hawaii. We can wear a closed back clogs like Dansko's or black running shoes. I wear the clogs at times and mainly the running shoes by New Balance. I hate the feeling of wearing socks, so I have been going without socks. I also can't stand wearing closed shoes since my feet sweat so badly. The Dansko's are easy to remove to allow the feet to dry and don't have the odor problem that sneakers quickly get. Odor Eaters help some. What do you recommend?

I havent worn socks in about 10 years now - I switch my shoes out daily when at work (usually barefoot everywhere else)...I found that not wearing the same shoe daily works

Wearing shoes without socks is a bad idea, in my opinion. I can't think of anything more disgusting than having your feet enclosed in some hot leather or leather-like binders with your feet sweating and practically nothing to absorb the sweat. In addition, unless the shoes are brand new and never had a human foot in them before, they are undoubtedly filthy inside, whether you can see it or not. And with your bare feet trapped in those filthy shoes without socks, you have nothing between your skin and the dead skin cells, bacteria, fungus, dried up perspiration, and other crap that constantly accumulates in shoes as they are worn on a regular basis.

If I'm not able to go barefoot and must wear regular shoes, I will never further torture my feet by not having some layer, such as clean cotton socks, between the skin of my feet and the abrasive, non-absorbent, dirty, probably smelly, inside of shoes.

Here are the shoes that I have been wearing, as attached. Leather should breath better then some other materials. I think you are right, bfrank, the sweat tends to lay in there for awhile. I wore them today and at one point my feet got so sweaty that it got really slimy inside. I almost twisted my ankle. I have seen male and female wear Dansko's all the time without socks. I wonder if their having any problems. Wearing socks feels restricting just like shoes. I'll try again a light pair socks this Tuesday.

I agree with that. Barefoot is always best of course, but if someone has to wear shoes, I can't understand why they'd not want to put some kind of clean barrier between their feet and the horrible inside of shoes. (See my previous post.)

i hate socks so when i wear shoes i sprinkle bicarbonate of soda in them very liberally.
it is absorbant and seems to keep my feet nice and fresh ;)

Beach shoes are a good substitute. The breath well and go on and off easily.
