hey is wax for dreads really that bad?! i mean im white, and my hair is pretty straight ive been growing it for about 6-7motnhs now and its no where close to knotting up i tried backcombing and all that stuff, but nothing worked, i agree that wax isnt good, but i cant wait tooo long because i want my dreads for the summmer and wax will make it look like dreads faster. i really think a bit of wax will work for me and wont mess everything up that bad, also i read some things about how wax helps dreads look like dreads way faster, im planning on gettin good wax and using a very minimal amount.... any suggestions?! is a little bit of good wax really as terrible as people make it to be?!
Key wording: look like dreads If you think about it: it's wax. Wax is hard to remove from things unless you melt it away. And I'm sure even harder with it soaked into your hair. Even if it is marketed to dreadheads, that does not necessarily mean it's good for ya'. My hair is also super straight. and extremely fine/thin. I had no trouble with backcombing at all. What I did was slowly work my way down the section by first backcombing at the very closest to the root. True it has unraveled a good few inches from the root but that's normal I'm told. I've just left it and let the rest of my hair do it's thing. You also have to keep your hair dry from oils, natural or otherwise. Spraying it with lemon/salt/water mixture after a shower (with non residue soap obviously) works wonders.
Yes. Yes it is that bad. Embrace the journey...in the end you'll have a sweet head 'o locks and be sooo glad you didn't resort to using wax. if you really want to try some styling product, try aloe vera. Wax is poop. Do you really want poop in your hair? Naughty boy. No wax!
i guess if there are tanning beds so that you can have a tan before summer, then wax is a good idea. man, i should teach a logic class.
if ya want em for summer then cut em & burn the candles in the fall then use wax.. if u want dreads that last just use bronners & time
If you really want to do something to make them lock up faster then just be persistent with the back-combing and wash your hair often. Knotdirty's tip to use aloe vera to style them is a great idea and it won't hurt them a bit. Do not use wax. Seriously. You're probably hating this advice now but you'll thank us later.
I must admit I was seduced by knottyboy and didn't know wax was bad when I started my locks and waxed just a couple times. That was coming up on 2 years ago and I still have grossgross wax buildup in my locks, with lots of lint and other stuff stuck in there with it. Wax really is bad and does no good unless you want "dreads" for a couple months as a style for summer.
will aloe vera help keep the hair together a little similar to how wax does?! or wat does aloe vera do...plus i want dreads for the summer because i have been waiting all year and im tierd of waiting, lol and i think its time, and i kno i real dread takes time blah blah, but im tryin to start them already
You know from all your other posts I've come to one conclusion, you have no patience. Which is what dreads are all about, if you just want the look of dreads for the summer go and get twists because I can tell you the one thing that dreads need is patience, try as you might, they will never go by your schedule, and if you ready every single post in this forum your gonna hear the same thing WAX=BAD.
Oh yeah...like somebody a few posts back said; I used wax ONCE when I first backcombed. the wax is just now coming to the surface of my dreads, almost two months later. It looks and feels really gross. It'll probably take another few weeks to get rid of it...wax is bad. I think maybe you want locks for the wrong reasons. It's a real commitment, you know? This is about as cliche and overused an expression as it gets...but it's not just a hairstyle. It's a lifestyle. It doesn't sound like you're willing to live the lifestyle that comes with having dreads. part of that lifestyle is having your hair look like total crap for an extended period of time. If you just want the look you can do temporary locks. google it. I mean, it'll jack up your hair, but whatever. At least you'll look "cool" for a couple of days.
Hyperbole! Good friend, I call you out on a hyperbole. I have often described my own experience of using a minimal amount of wax at the beginning of this set. I made sure to wash it all out a month later, and I've gotten it all out to the best of my ability, and I think it did great things for my hair early on to shape. I think no wax is probably the best way to go, but as long as one remains responsible for their wax usage, I think it can be used for good effect. Namaste
aloe vera is good for your scalp while you have dreads. it helps brake up the oils from your stinky head. but i suggest you wash your hairs sometime soon after using it, you dont want it to mold. really the best way to get your head to dread is by washing it every day, never combing it and never drying it. then its a matter of pulling apart the clumbs of hair to make nice dreads. if you are just looking at it as a fassion statement, then go to the salon, if its a spiritual thing, then how do you lie to the spirits man?
I don't know about a hardcore washing every day. That might hurt baby dreadies...but I do suggest that you rinse your head every day in the shower and give your scalp a lil massage.
also i read somewhere that washing ur head with like a baking soda solution, like baking soda lemon juice and water and washing ur dreads with it, it like completely cleans ur hair out and like cleans the dreads out, is this possible?! if this is true, i might wax my hair then once my dreads lock up ill just use the baking soda solution to clean the shit out...i doubt this is true though... also isnt there a way to remove the wax without cutting the dreads out?! maybe melting it somehow or just use some sort of product to get it out?!!!!
dude you have alreadymade up your mind its like the guy on the car forums who asks everyone if its cool to run ebay coilovers or cut/heat his springs You just want one person to say wax is ok so you feel good when you go ahead and do it. So here Wax is fine, use it and you will have no problems
no hahaha lol i kno its not fine and i kno it messes up the dreads once they lock up, ...but i kno 3-4 ppl that have used wax for dreads and there dreads look clean and fine...i waitin im tryin all the other methods b4 i actually go and use wax... i kno WAX IS BAD! LOL
ok once more Wax=Bad, and it's WAX you have to melt it out, with extreme heat which would probably hurt like all hell and there is no garantee it's all gone after. Baking soda stuff is great I use it once a month to clean my dreadies, however it is very unlikely to remove wax.
