To intervene in a public racist rant against a couple of young black girls, one who was wearing a Hajab---can get you killed! Jeremy Christian (no comment) was berating in a loud and threatening manner--ie: go back where you came from and some other choice words, ( the regulars, I'm sure) when three men began to stick up for and stop the guy from getting in their faces. Christian pulled a knife, killed two of the men and seriously wounded the third. The jury is hearing the case now and is going to decide whether his actions constituted a hate crime or not. This happened on public transportation and there were many witnesses. It has been said that--discretion is the better part of valor----I don't know---my conclusion concerning intervention is that were I to have been there--I would have been killed or injured also. Sometimes a line has to be drawn and so it goes. Verdict should be soon.
Racism is the lowest of all lows, in my own opinion. It's gross. It's up there with the world's worst smelly farts. Here in Australia there was a viral video going around of a little boy who has dwarfism who was being bullied because of his disability. People need to learn to be kind always because if they don't then you are going to have an ongoing war between people from different nationalities and it won't be pretty.
I don't want to sound as though I'm defending any sort of racial slurs, or encouraging this sort of boorish behavior, but...one has to be *very* cautious about getting overly caught up in rushing to "defend" someone who is the victim of a purely vocal attack. While I realize that words can hurt...it doesn't justify a physical reaction. I'm not saying that the "defenders" of the young girls initiated the physical encounter, but bringing 3 men into a situation against one guy (even if he seemed to be the aggressor) has ended with 2 dead, a 3rd wounded...and the aggressor *may* successfully claim self-defense. We oftentimes let ourselves get pulled into situations where pride and machismo end up escalating a situation, and the end result is completely out of proportion to the initial incident. Physical force should be a last resort, when all else has failed. Swallow your pride...and just walk away. So many people have died, or ended up in prison, because of their pride.
Yet you found some memes about him. One thing can you please be kind instead of being a childish moron that seems to be bullying others on an internet forum? You will get respected more if you stop this behaviour.
That's sad, that you were both treated that way. I'm sure those kids did not represent the "norm" for that community. Unfortunately...it only takes one or two people acting so badly, to cast a bad light on an entire area, and cause a very unfavorable impression. I'm glad that you both escaped with little more than an unsettling encounter, but no actual injuries or physical harm done.
