I've, for the past four years, been habitually smoking marijuana and on one occasion dropping mushrooms with a friend. It's always made me wonder, my grandmother was a hippie in her day and when she initially asked me if I had been doing drugs told me she didn't mind because she had dropped acid and smoked weed. So, was it a lot better in the '60s, I know it was cheaper, but was it better than it is now or now because people cultivate it across the world and alter the genetics of the plant is it better now?
I started smoking on May 1, 1971. I would say definitely the good herb these days is better than it was then. The Blue Dream I'm smoking now is close to the best I ever had.
The only high grade I've ever had was what we were told was Northen Lights, did anything close to that exist back then?
Depends on what you prefer I guess. Not that I was around in those days But theoretically the non-altered weed strains haven't changed a lot, while the intensely cultivated plants have at least doubled their potency. Also, since there is profit to be made a large part of the weed cultivated for you is done with using chemicals to make it grow faster which I can imagine generally doesn't make it better for the smoker. On the other side, in the 60's you could use certain chemicals that are forbidden now
The pot nowadays has higher THC content, but I'd gladly trade that in order to be able to buy it for $15-$20 an ounce like I did back then.
Oh get over it, The potency of marjuana has not increased for THOUSANDS OF YEARS! the cultivation of dank buddage reaches back to pre-historical antiquity... check out the worlds oldest stash found in the Gobi desert. http://dsc.discovery.com/news/slideshows/marijuana-stash.html scroll through the slide show to see a close-up of the buds and tell me that don't look like some serious nuggs...:sifone: ...and what the hell was this red-headed shaman doing way out in the Gobi desert 2800 yrs ago with a giant bag of buds anyway? We can only wonder ZW
I don't know about millenia ago but the potency of thc in cultivated plants is measured since last century so that's what I was talking about.
I cant vouch for the 60s but its far better that what was around in the late 70s and 80s unless you grew your own and even that was not as good as the buds today. A lot of research and breeding has gone on in the last 25 years or so and it shows in the results of todays strains.
Well yeah but that's not a weed issue. I can get nostalgic over 90's weed prices as well. Big enough difference for me if I compare to todays prices
I don't remember if weed was good-bad-or wonderfull back then, but I know I smoked me some fricken hash in Hawaii in 1968 that literally made me forget where in the hell I was--where in the hell I was supposed to be--and where in the hell I was going!!! Oh it was just horrible!!hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahaa. Yeah-boiiiii
Me too! That was the class act back in the 60s & early 70s. It made you HAPPY! Plus it got you wasted. In general cannabis produced today tends to be far stronger than that produced in the 60s. Why? Cause back then you got stems and seeds and leaves along with your pot. So even though the price was much lower, you actually got a lot less smokeable material in an ounce than you would now. Added to the fact that the plants were allowed to go to seed, meant that a lot of the energy that would normally go into producing bigger buds, went into creating and growing the seeds. There was very little sinsemilla back then. The first sinsemilla we ever saw was probably thai stick, although you might find a seed now and then in it. Also the way the pot was cured and pkgd back then didn't help with the quality. Often there was mold or other crap in the pot. Although the pot was inferior in some ways than today's pot, we also got plenty of hashish back then from Morocco, Afghanistan, Nepal, Lebanon, India, Pakistan. Quality did vary, but if you managed to get top quality Nepalese or Afghani or Moroccan, you got something just as strong as anything produced today. So no, tricomes are tricomes and they haven't changed EVER! Then in the early 70s, California sinsemilla hit the market along with Hawaiian, and then we finally discovered just how potent marijuana could be...(Thai stick too)
I rarely ever smoke anymore. I can't get high and do school haha, just doesn't work for me. But damn...that made me wanna get high so bad!
I first went to Jamaica in 1976 and the sinsemilla was incredible. Way better than anything I could get in Boston. So good it tempted me to smuggle some back. Mmmm. Irie!
My grandma & I had smoked some Northern Lights together. She had to put the joint half way out because it was "too much for her". She told me that the shit "we kids" have today is really fucking good & that weed now-days is nothing like it used to be. haha. I recently tried Purple Haze & I think that shit fucked me up more than Northern Lights. I think just because they both give me two different types of highs. Anyway; yeah..... weed from the 6O`s/7O`s was probably nothing compared to what we can get ahold of now-a-days (according to morning child aka grandma). eace:
I bought my first ounce for $20 (Canadian) in '68. Trust me, there's no comparison between quality smoke today and what was available then. Today's bud is far superior -- much more like the finest hash of the 60s and 70s. But yeah, an ounce of decent stuff today is going to set you back $200-$260 (Canuck).
We all know that ancient aliens had the best weed. Even the buds grew buds. But since the 1960s The art has matured a lot, so if you're talking about primo stuff; today is better. It's gone nowhere but up. Fukken pigs and feds making it expensive though. Running up our national debt is all they doing though.
OMG that Jamaican red-bud had such a taste and the buzz was so happy mon! Mmmm, Irie indeed... ..anyone mention Oaxacan Gold? That was my all time favorite flavor and buzz.. not a 'Wasted' buzz like some (perhaps more potent) chronic-buds you might find today, but a really positive buzz, complex and creative.
