From what I have been reading, COOL sounds like it may have been a Theme Camp at Burning Man? An Oregon-based commune? One day in 1979 when I lived in San Francisco, I was playing my guitar in Union Square (as I sometimes did), trying to write a song. A young girl came up to me and said "We have a group that has regular dinners and we discuss social issues. Would you like to come to dinner?" I was curious about this whole thing, so I said yes. Instead of looking at it like a "date" with the girl, I went to the address she gave me. Instead of the girl, there were about 30 people there of various ages and background. There was no food being served, they were all in little groups discussing their "issues". I was introduced to the head of their organization who immediately trapped me in a discussion of radical takeovers of nuclear facilities and joining their group, selling everything I owned and giving them the money. This was simply a cult recruiting members with the promise of a "free dinner". Is COOL another cult?
