lotta fun this year. if any of yall are ever in a position to do so, this is always a great show to catch...lots of interesting jams, good folks and asheville's such a cool city to see a show in...not to mention its all for a good cause...
things that got my attention this year:

Popper project w/ col bruce doing 'time is free' was great...cant say i was overly impressed with the reat of their set

Taj mahal Trio was amazing...i had doubts as to how they would sound in such a big room, but they just crushed it... Blackjack Davey>Lovin In My Babys Eyes was sweet as could be

Marty Stewarts band was great....wasnt really expecting how heavy it would be...he played more electric guitar than mandolin....big churning psychedelic version of 'in the pines'

New Orleans Social Club w/ Branford ....not much to say...it smoked, it was funky, & we got down

Dave Matthews....cant say i was ever a fan...his solo set was just weird....
but he stayed on w/ govt mule for a excellent 'cotez the killer'

the end of mules set was blazin...im pretty sure UMs guitarist was out there as well for sco-mule. that dudes got some skills. him and dave schools seemed to enjoy playin together

encore was great....'i shall be released' was just gorgeous

sounds like a great time. I bet Dave put alot of people to sleep judging by the set lists. I'm sure people were back on their feet when Mule came out. Did Warren sing on Sugaree?

not to be a hater, but yeah, dave's set was a bit of a buzzkill & was putting a lot of folks to sleep...specially after the Social Club throwdown
yeah, warren does sing sugaree...cant remember if taylor hicks took a verse or not

why was a big name there? two thoughts: some folks like him for whatever reason. and he sells tickets, and that gets the others paid. Good thing in my mind.

Why does everyone hate on Dave Matthews for?

Just coz he dumped a bunch of shit on Chicago tourists...........

    Oh yeah thats why.

Saw mule in Indy 2 weeks ago and it was SMOKIN. Wish I could have been @ x-mas jam though, sounds like it was pretty good.

Dave wasn't even on the bus. None of the band was--it was his driver.

Mule can be pretty underrated for their abilities, but that's what I love about Warren.

You don't hear people walking around going "Hey... damn that Carter Beauford!!!" So... I don't see why it should really be Dave's fault either. He donated to the city of chicago and friends of the chicago river to help with efforts.

the shit thing in Chicago was the drivers fault. not Dave's at all. but, Daves' music is his fault. DMB is bland and boring. Good for him with his success....but he sold songs to frat boys, teen age girls and their mothers....its fluff music. nothing knew, nothing that really takes alot of talent.

Druminmama, yes he sells tickets...but to who? not people i want around. i hate sounding like an elitist, but DMB fans are generally not the type i can hang out with. and its not because of the music they listen to, its who they are , and they all seem to like DMB.

lets change out the boring, uninspired set of DMB and put something new in there like the DUO or Revolutionary Side-Effects....something fresh, younger, more musical.

there were definately a lot of folks who enjoyed his set...i dont think it can really be denied that the dude has talent. it was just a weird speedbump in the flow of the show in my opinion...wouldve flowed better if he did his set at 7pm instead of midnight.
they definately dont need him to sell tickets...it been years since the xmas jam wasnt sold out far ahead of time
and as much as i dislike his tunes, hard to bag on anyone for donating their time to play a set for a good cause

Dave Matthews is my favorite artist ever. I guess you have to like his music to respect it....if that makes sense. For me I cant find anything that sounds like his stuff and its unique to me. He's got a song for every mood. DMB shouldn't be classified as a jam band, becasue they are not really. His live shows are amazing experiances and I can understand not liking someones music, but the overall hate of him doesnt make sense to me. Hes a great song writer. Look at some of his lyrics.

Yeah I know the driver did it,but as an employer,my employees represent me.So I kinda feel he was responsible too. It was Dave's bus and he personally apologized for it. If he wasn't responsible why apologize?

And I don't hate the music.I like the fact they have a rythym guitarist out front.
Wasn't trying to piss off any DMB fans.

jamphan, come on. just because the guy was his employee doesn not make it his fault at all. if one of your employees decided to kill somebody on shift, your fault? i think not. he apologized because he's the famous one.
