Does anyone get that urge? I have it now...whenever something sad happens, or big emotionally, I like to be depressed; I start listening to darker music and stuff...is anyone else like this?

I used to feel that way, like up until I was 16 or so. I don't know about you but for me, I thought I actually "liked" being depressed back then, but now I know that I just felt comfortable being depressed, because it was how I always had been. Several years and three kinds of antidepressants later (plus a ton of introspection and all that jazz), I realize that I rather enjoy being not depressed.

uhhh. if you're not depressed.. be happy that you aren't.. and don't TRY to be depressed. dont force depression, it'll just happen at some point.

depressed people have a very bad state of mind.

i can go on and on about it... because i myself was a very depressed individual.. i'm still recovering... its not a happy way of living... terrible lifestyle these people live..

D MAN Are you talking about melancholy perhaps, instead of depression? Melancholy moods are sort of natural, ...dark, gloomy, cloudy days, somber music, introspective thoughts, solitude. Melancholy moods pass of their own accord as opposed to depression which moves in, takes over and wrecks lives. There are periods of time when I sort of like melancholy moods, I frequently play David Darlings Cello music...Dark Wood because that creates a great somber mood. Depression on the other hand sucks goat dick. Depression is not what you want...check out the definition of melancholy. Or, who knows, maybe you really do like depression, but I doubt it. At any rate, enjoy whatever.

A lot of people find comfort in sadness. It becomes a comfortable state, a state of victimization that they enjoy wallowing in regularly. As the first replier illustrates, some people grow out of it. Some don't. Some people just need sadness to feel SOMETHING... it's like they aren't alive without being in pain. I don't mean to say that this is you, I am using some extreme words, but I know people like this, and I think it's good that you recognize it now because it can definitely be a problem if it gets out of control. As long as it's only at specific times, though, I think it's a perfectly normal part of emotional development. Sooner rather than later you will realize that negative emotions are not really helpful and should be avoided if at all possible :)

wow i thought i was the only one who kinda liked it. when i was 16 i lked it, it was some sort of feeling to have instead of emptiness, it comes and goes now. i take medicine off and on, it gets me kinda weirded out, but when i dont take it for a while, i get really bad, and i like it.

just start seeing someone, i hope itll pass over for you :)

hopefully you will be able to deal with it naturally and not let it consume you ... depression is a vicious spiral, you should deal with it in a healthy manner or you wont have any way to stop the "urge" you'll seriously sink into a depression that you wont find so amusing.

feeling sad can feel natural - its good to feel the whole range of emotions.

chronic depression is much different however.

    Thanks for posting.
Ya i dont have a problem, and i dont think i need help.
Its just a feeling I get. Yarapario, I guess it is like "melancholy". And maybe stacy lulu has it a bit more severe. Im over being like that from yesterday- I make my self sad untill I get clostraphobic-like, and then it just feel good anymore. Ill try not to do it anymore- I dont want to actually be depressed

i know exactly how you feel. i felt that way and drove myself into depression for years. 3 years. i cut and never told anyone how i felt. my parents finally found out when i tried to run away with my friend. and i still get urges to be depressed eventhough i know the hell it really is. but if you get the urge to like cut or do anything bad-- just think-- what would (insert good friend here) think about this--??
    idon't know just some advice...

i think your confused... if something sad happens, you will feel sad... and if listening to sad music is how you deal with thats fine... you sound more like your describing normal emotions but your confused.. like what do you think, other people somehow "keep" themselves from feeling sad when something that would make them sad happens??? :p

maybe your a person who used to hide from your emotions or something.. pssh i dunno.. your 15.. maybe your just growing up or something...

maybe it's just depression sublimated into an interest for dark music.

i get that feeling sometimes too. the only time i feel alive is when i feel like shit......

i get the feeling that when i'm happy, i'm only decieving to myself. but when i feel abandoned or like everyone hates me, those are the times that i feel alive.

but the thing is, i don't go around cutting myself to make myself "feel alive". i just wait for some thing to happen. Like this chick who i liked completly ignoring me. I just wait for shit like that to happen.
