I'm from Poland. I got my BA degree and want to take a break. I'm 22 years old, my gf dumped me (I wanted to spend my life with her, for the first time I was so madly in love, well...) and I need to change something in my life. I want to try my luck in the UK, finding a job, flat and staying there for a while. What can you tell me about Leeds, how is the city, is it ok for a newcomer? Can you recommend me some other cities that are not as expensive as London etc. and finding a job is not so hard? I mean, damn, I will be going abroad alone (?) for the first time in my life and I'm really nervous about finding a job, people to live with, etc. :( Anybody want a flatmate from Poland :D ? ;)

Hi, Leeds is a good fun town, and Manchester too. Mostly because there are large universities there so lots of students (and student girls looking for fun single men - with a difference - perhaps Polish?...)

I've always preferred the north of England to the south, I think you're making a good choice. :)

If you want cheap then it's best to stay in the north of the UK, so yeh Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle etc.
I would recommend Exeter because it's lovely and chilled, but Devon has one of the highest house and rental prices in the country and yet we are the lowest paid. Stoopid Whitehall cutting our government funding again. Damn all the rich people coming down and buying our houses and making Whitehall think we're loaded. DAMN YOU ALL!

There are loads of polish moving here for some reason I don't know. My workplace is full of them. They're going to outnumber us english! Can you tell me why the Polish seem to want to move here all of a sudden? I love your polish women I have to say, but I wish they spoke english!

I think there's a lot of every nationality coming over. Chard in Devon has been renamed "little portugal".

I must correct myself... Chard is infact in Somerset, but Somerset and Devon are practically the same thing... just like Cornwall and Devon.

Brighton's where it's at! Really multicultural place, folks from all over the globe, easy to find cash in hand work (no tax) and it's (a bit) cheaper than London. Good free parties in summer and music scene is top notch but lots of people 'defined' by their haircuts and trendy arseholes.
