hello...i just dyed my hair black, with permament hair color. its okay, but i think i want my hair to be dark brown(my natural color). how would i go about doing that? i was thinking dying it LIGHT brown, so it would even out to a dark brown, but im no hair dying expert. any out there that can helP? thanks so much!
okay, i hate to tell you this.. but layering light brown color over black will do absolutely nothing to change the color.. there are a couple of ways to get it back to ur natural color.. i have mucho experience with hair dyeing/bleaching.. and my mom is a hairdresser.. so here's what i suggest the first, and best for your hair is to let it grow out on it's own.. the other is to bleach out the black, which will take more than one application of bleach, and more than likely fry your hair.. if you choose this method, please go to a professional.. it will probably save you a lot of grief.. but, if you wanna diy it , i suggest you have a good friend help you First and foremost, DO NOT buy the cheap bleach kits at walmart. They are a complete rip off.. instead, go to a beauty supply store, buy the powder bleach.. a large tub of it will probably run you $15 - if you have long hair and since you'll have to do it more than once to get the right results, the large tub is your best bet.. also, get a bottle of either a 30 or 40 volume developer - depending on which bleach you choose, it should have instructions and suggestions on the outside of the tub- 40 volume is more harsh than 30, but it'll definitely get that black out you'll need some gloves - the gloves are VERY important.. if you/your friend who helps you do not wear the gloves, the bleach will burn your hands.. and you'll you'll also need a bowl to mix the bleach and developer in and brush to apply it to the hair.. obviously dont wear something you dont want ruined, and a good idea would be to spread some newspaper over the floor/carped so it's not ruined either.. just follow the directions on the product you buy, and you shouldn't have any problems. just keep checking the color change until you achieve the desired results and never leave the bleach on for over an hour.. you dont want your hair breaking off.. oh, and don't bleach it more than twice in one week.. your hair needs time to rest between processes - at least a day.. and that includes letting it rest between bleaching and then dying it.. another good idea is to deep condition after you bleach.. i mean, when you bleach your hair, it is inevitably damaged - you can't avoid that.. and the deep condition doesnt really do anything to reverse that damage, but it does help. that's about as much as i can tell you.. i hope i was thorough and clear enough.. if you have any questions, feel free to PM me, good luck, hun
man when i was 17 I dyed my hair jetblack and it tripped my hair out for a while. It was so fryyyed. If I were you I'd go to a salon and get it fixed. I wouldn't let anyone touch it that isnt a pro. Alicia
go get it done, definately. once you start messing with it yourself, it's hard to get back to where you started without a little bit of help from a professional. and it is very easy to fry your hair. i have the same color hair as you, and if you layer a lt brown over black, it might make it lighter, but i don't think you'd get what you are going for. common color rules do not apply to the hair. and stay away from the bleach.
I dyed my hair black and when it started growing out it was bright orange! A few years ago I bleached my hair, but it didn't work very well. Then I dyed it bright blue. When that started washing out because I hadn't bleached it enough it turned grayish green. Then I used semi-permanent brown over it. It ended up with spots. So I had to use plantinum blonde then it turned orange, so I had to do it again. Finally I got it all bleach blonde, which looked horrible. Then I dyed it light brown. I didn't do anything to my hair for a year after that because it was fried and I was scared of destroying it again! Good luck!
Definatly go and get it professionally fixed if you really dont like it. Playing with Bleach is dangerous, I Bleached my hair almost a year ago and i had it on for about 15 minutes and checked the colour, it was wicked blonde so I went to wash it out and most of my hair broke off, I went from having hair down to my ass to having basically a bob cut, I would never recommend playing with bleach if your not a professional
I dyed my hair black about 2 years ago and didn't like it at all, so I just let it grow out. My hair was really long when I did it, about waist length, and as more of my natural color grew back in I would cut more off the ends. Eventually I just cut it up to a little past my shoulders, so there was a little more than an inch of black. I used a color stripper (different from bleach) to get the rest of it out. A color stripper isn't as damaging to your hair as bleach is, but I still suggest you go to a salon to get it done. After the color is stripped you can't jump right in and dye it back to your natural color, most salons use a filler (usually red) before they dye it back.
lame listen, i did the exact same thing a couple years ago, CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BOX!!! Tell them what happened- have your dye/colour # and name, and tell them what you're looking to do. Tell them you need an inexpensive way to do it and they'll make the best suggestion. I almost blew over $250 by going to a salon to have them fix it, when i decided to call the # on the box, she told me to buy 2 boxes of a certain colour and it would lighten up perfectly. It worked like a dream. It's worth a shot before spending tons on a pro. Another thing you could do is buy a Clarifying shampoo. It must be a clarifying one!! Use tons of it in DRY hair (you'll have to use like half the bottle depending on your hair legnht because it's harder to create a lather in dry hair) and lather it up, leave it in for 30 mins. This takes a lot of the colour out. This was a suggestion the number on the box gave me once as well.
Well aren't you a little ray of fucking sunshine miss intelligence. Most of the advice has already been said, you can't dye brown over black without lightening it and if you're not sure what you're doing then I'd reccommend getting someone who does to do it. Speaking as someone who's fried their hair many a time in the past then if you can get a proffessional or at least a wise old dyeing sage to help you. If you're worried about your hair you could just leave it to fade naturally, you can get sprays that will lighten it a little in the sunshine and under heat if you want to lighten it gradually and gently. Hope it all turns out well xxx
honey, if your hair is dark brown, just wait and let grow it out. i did do it before, and i just let it stay in my hair for a while and it just faded it away a bit so i didnt see the difference between my natural hair and the painted piece. so i'll see leave it alone from now on, leave it natural...
I did this once when i colored my hair myself. The stylist I went to sent me home and told me to rinse my hair twice a week with 1/2 cup white vinegar mixed w/ 1/2 cup water, and to do this until it stripped enough of the color off that it could be fixed. It really does work.
try prell. it doesn't say clarifying, but that stuff can take color out of anything. i'm talking the original green prell. if you ever want to keep your color for any amount of time, don't even touch this stuff.
try going and having them weave low-lights into your hair this is reasonably inexpensive compared to lightening your hair. I got low-lights recently here is the before and after they took for their books
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ edit-before is on the right and after pic on the left. I got chi straightening done too and if you left them photograph you afterwards for their portfolio you get a crazy discount. I highly reccomend low-lights and gradualy going darker as it increases dpeth and shine.
lynsey no offense but did you even read her post? She's not trying to go darker, she's trying to get back to brown from black.
sorry I meant highlites in her case lol...but not the bleach kind. I always refer to any weave that is not bleach as lowlites and am continually corrected...my bad. But same advice just brown hair dye foiled in-no bleach. I'm pn some pain pills right now so I misread and mistyped...sorry
