contrary to what people believe about next years festival (Ive heard many times that wakarusa has been cancelled because of the huge busts and drug use last year), the festival is going on as scheduled....... so far widespread panic and YMSB are on the bill.... one thing though, is that, there will be even more of a presence this next year as far as law enforcement is concerned. so keep that it mind all of you. after all, lawrence is in kansas, and kansas law enforcement are very strict. so please use your best judgement if you come to wakarusa this year.
I've wanted to go to Wakarusa for a while, some friends went this year and had an amazing time (mixed with too many psychedelics). I shalt try to go this year, I'm working 8 hours a day, so I will defenatly have a good 400$ or so to take there... to... hmm... splurge. I do hope some big indie or reggae names will be performing.
eh.... not likely... no.. more like guaranteed that i wont be going... i'm sticking to 10k... there was almost NO cop presence there... i saw a squad car once.. and that was because they were looking for a stolen golf cart.. so wheres the 10,000 Lakes Festival sticky thread
No Coparusa oops I mean Wakarusa for moi.. The only way I'm going is if they resurrect Jerry and book The Dead.
wakarusa 2007 lineup is fucking insane so far. Medeski, Martin and Wood, The Everyone Orchestra, Pnuma Trio, Yonder Mountain, Widespread, just to name a few how can you say no that that?
Hmm... That lineup does sound pretty killer. It did suck having all those cops around though. I've heard all sorts of rumors about it this year but who knows whats true. Funny story about last year. I didnt witness it but I guess some people who were fed up with the cops set up a trip wire and snagged a few po pos who were patrolin in their golf carts. I guess they did it a couple times and just ran away without getting caught and the cops just gave up and quit patroling that area. God I would have loved to see that shit. Im just debating between Wakarusa and 10,000 lakes this year. I lost my music festi virginity at Wakarusa so it's kinda in my soul now but maybe its time to try something new.
hahhahahahahahahahaaaa! this sounds JUST like when the heads turned on the roo. if you like smaller shows, GO and quit dissing the sucess of folks a lot like us. I'm GLAD Waka thinks it can afford such names. last year the posts were: don't do the roo, go to wakarusa! so now, the throngs will head to 10K lakes, and then where?
i think this years wakarusa will be very similar to the very first one (2004). Not very many people, a very sweet "secret" of the summer. Which is totally cool by me, now that all the idiots are gonna be gone, you wont hear about all the cops. They will be present there, but as long as there isnt some retard totally messed outta his skull ASKING to get busted, i think the majority of the festival-goers will be pretty satisfied with wakarusa 07. see you guys in june!
how do I know??????? because wakarusa is my backyard, and I have access to the local paper, thats why. trust me, if you are thinkin about sellin, or bringin drugs, you better watch yourself. there will probably be alot of narcs too I know of people who didnt even go there for the music, they went there to sell drugs. they are drug dealers. thats why I cant even go to wakarusa anymore. its all about drugs, and not the music, so fuck that.
according to wakarusa.com (in the whats new for 2007 part) it says theres a friendlier, and less of a presence of security right at the top. It cant be as bad as it was last year (as i think it was a test and those people were the unfortunate guinea pigs), theres no way. Wakarusa will be over forever if its anything like last year. And they want the fest to go on for a while. They need fans to do that, and they need less security for fans because unfortunately thats the only thing people care about fests anymore....is how many cops are gonna be there. As for me, i will be gladly by the stage all day long watching RAQ, MMW, PNUMA, and OZRIC TENTACLES for fucks sake, not to metion the others. This year may have the best lineup of all, and that says a lot considering 04-06. I think the lineup is worth the 120 bucks.
Ben Harper is headlining so i'd love to go but after hearing about last year i'm very hesitant to make the trip.
well, if you plan on doin drugs, dont go. if you are there for the music, then no one will hassle you.
http://cannabisnews.com/news/22/thread22166.shtml didn't know if anyone had seen this or not, talk about guniea pigs, it does say they may not be implemented this next year though.
thats old news, they wrote that a short while after the fest. And then all the stories started pouring in. But in all reality, there were under a hundred arrests made during the weekend, half of which were Minor In Possession (of alcohol). So obvioulsy they didnt prosecute many of these cases, they just ruined everyones weekend by harrassing and stealing their shit. This is not going to happen again though, the fest will be forever ruined if anything like this happens again. I am a consistent contributor to the wakarusa forums on their web site and i have heard every damn thing about this topic. I am sick of it to be honest bc i dont think fests should be about how many drugs you can do. Its about how many different shows you can see without yor legs giving out. I am confident that Mosiman will listen to the wakarusa attendees and make it a more respectful and peacful place to hang out. The amount of attention they have received on this particular subject is phenominal. They have to do SOMETHING to please the people, or else their fest will fall apart. And plus, just take a look at the lineup for 2007 i mean c'mon. Doesnt get much better than that...
My first experience at Wakarusa last year was great, albeit I did notice a definite presence of police, as well as security. Since the fest is in a State Park I didn't think too much about it, and I just watched as all the popo sped by on their four wheelers. I did have a VIP ticket which gave me up front viewing, but security was still everywhere. I guess the police stuck mainly to the crowd out in general addmission. To be honest, it didn't really effect me as far as my recreational fun time went, I just made sure to keep everything on the DL as possible. It was only after the festival was over that I found out about the "experimental police tactics" that were used with the cameras and what not, and I found it all hard to believe and take in. I guess my experience at Waka was much different than a lot of folks, I had a great time. For me it was/ and is mainly about the music, and Wakarusa is hands down the best Festy lineup there is, with few exceptions. Plus its capped at few thousand people, so it wont ever turn into anther 'roo. Just a few of my thoughts about Waka... hope to see you there this year. It's gonna go off! www.wakarusa.com Thanks for reading my rant, Peace! Mellow
