welcome to the scene! you know these bands have been around for many years right : )

im from KS originally, been to every waka of all time except for last year. Just couldnt make it due to my recent move to the great state of CO.

I feel bad for you if you missed tipper or mimosa at waka though. sounds like yuor definitely in the electronic stuff, and those two were the pinnacle of the electronic stuff at waka. but waka is really a jam fest at the core. if you like bassnectar, sts9, bisco, etc. you may want to look into the following groups:

pnuma (or pnuma trio as they call themselves now...)
lotus (between 04-08 is their best work imo...)
praang (side project of a group called Zilla who is just as good...both bands are A+ and have played waka in the past...)

those are some good livetronic BANDS. If your looking for good electronic music to listen to, i would look into the following producers:

Opiuo (even better if you can get a hold of the Rigiti EP by SUNMONX)
VIBESQUAD... makes bassnectar sound like trash.
Heyoka (interesting and unique dubstep that is not your typical whomp whomp BS..especially his older works...)
Bluetech (starting to get really popular, a good one for starters...tons of material)
Kilowatts (Problem Solving is the best 12 bucks you will spend in a long time!)
    Mount Kimbie
Landau (very easy to listen to, chill, warm, etc...)
Skeetaz (bil bless + kilowatts duo...Off is an amazing album..)
Nalepa (again, very chill, but this guy knows his stuff. teaches lots of music classes in Cali because he is a great, great, producer...)
Deru (my personaly favorite, but thats just my opinion lol. you may not like his almost experimental flavor, but his newest album, SAy Goodbye To Useless is not experimental at all. if you like that, check out his older works, which are some of the best albums in my collection, period....)

you can find some free stuff on sts9's record label (1320records.com) - i know they have a kilowatts side project album up there for free.. just click on the -super galactic expansive- tab to find you can buy the album for 0.00.... its a good album too! You can also find lots of Nalepa, and Pnuma on there...

other jam and waka friendly bands i would HIGHLY recommend you look into:

    -toubab krewe
    -the motet
-everyone orchestra (best festival band ever. mix your favorite artists from each band, and thats what the everyone orchestra is!!!)
-robert walter's 20th congress/greyboy allstars/karl denson's tiny universe (all are similar and contain common band members, but quality, quality, jazz/jam/funk here..)
-Jazz Mandolin Project (havent seen them on tour in years unfortunately, but they arent done yet....)
-Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey (they will be playing Jardines in downtown KC shortly. and they might be playing in MO if im not mistaken somewhere else. DO NOT MISS them live... this is one of those bands that MUST be experienced live.

My rule of thumb : if you listen to it, and it sounds like shit, it probly is shit. dont listen to what others are saying because 99% of the time you can find better music on your own. Just go to last.fm and do some searching for some of these artists to find out what YOU like and go from their...
