It's by the Doors. Not their best album by a long shot, but it's got "Hello, I Love You", "Love Street", "The Unknown Soldier" and "Five To One" on it. Those are some pretty decent songs.
That's definitely not one of the Doors' best songs. Actually, it was written and recorded for commercial success.
hehe, it was no problem, really... Wow, having someone owe me for diggin' a Doors album...good world.
And anyway, I think you're talking shit. The song was written in 1965, 3 years before Waiting For The Sun was released even released. As part of a 6 track demo. Thats before Robbie Krieger even joined the band. Yeah its poppy, but the Doors were essentially a pop band.
Almost ALL the Doors songs were written for commercial success. They were a commercial band. Doesn't the legend say that just after Morrison showed Manzarek his lyrics, Manzerak said something along the lines of "Those are great, lets form a band and make a million dollars"? My point is that Hello, I Love You isnt any more or less commercial than most of their other songs. And that being commercial doesn't necassarily mean its not a good song. The opening riff is one of the all time classics...
ALMOST all with a huge emphasis on "almost." You can't tell me that "The End" was written for commercial success. Yes, that is true. But what Ray was saying was that "Hello, I Love You" was written only to give The Doors a hit song and get them up in the charts. Most of Jim and Robbie's music wasn't written simply to gain popularity. They wrote and recorded the songs because they sounded good to them... and they were good. Sure, I agree with you there. I just don't think that "Hello, I Love You" is a great Doors' song when you compare it to other greats such as "The End," "When the Music's Over," and "The Soft Parade."
Yeah, I had actually written ALL the Door's song were commercial, but then thought about The End and a few of the other greats and change it. So we've agreed then, Hello, I Love You is a good song, but commercial. *Shakes Sam's hand* Case closed old chum!
