I've wanted a van since I got my driving licence. I'm not bothered whether it's a VW or anything, but I'd love to take it to festivals and chill out in the countryside.

    Ive got a T25!
Well two of them to be exact but ones just for bits. The good ones away getting MOT'd at the mo, needing a fair bit of welding. When its back from the garage im planning to swap the engines over somehow and get it all ready for the summer then hit the road.
Have you had Shelley long? Been anywhere nice?

Hi fountains it was nice chatting to you last night.

Hello ripple and good look with the mot.

I got shelly last year a week before van fest.
We went to vanfest as our first event in her and loved every minute but on the way home the engine blew and we were stuck on the motorway for ages.
She got a new engine a couple of weeks after that then we went with some other dubbers to a nice campsite inbetween shrewsbury and wales which was an awesome weekend even though i was a complete mess for most of it.

The photo below was taken on the second day

At the moment shelly is off the road so i can weld some new panels into her and rebuild the interior.

Thats the only photo i managed to take that weekend shelly is the red bus in the middle with the stripy pop top.

I often thought a VW camper would be a pretty good car, even though it seems like it's not something I need to be thinkin about at my age. I like shelly, hope she gets well(ded) soon.

I used to have a 1972 VW tradesmans van which I converted to a camper - it was bright orange when I got it and a bit rusty so i spent 2000 doing it up properly - I got that in 1995 and sold it in 2001

Nothing beats driving a vw the sound of those old air cooled engines was stupendous. I would drive with the windows down just to hear it better

I am really thinking of getting another but they are dead expensive now and most have been restored so even more cash is needed

They're horrible smelly polluting things, and camping in a VW camper isn't really camping is it? It's cheating. Get a bike. Though to be fair you can't really sleep in a bike.

    So, in summary: Tuesday

Obviously you have never owned one - so what is real camping, do I need a camel train and some sand dunes or do I have to sleep on the north face of the eiger or something?
    _________

Really love the blue-grey van and the darkblue van in the pic BTW

This van is owned by a friend of mine but I altered the reg' for obvious reasons

    I actually own seven.

Real camping is camping in a real camp, with real camping campers, all acting a camp way.

Well I still want one. As for them being horrible smelly things, I guess that's why hippies feel comportable in them :jester:

How was vanfest? Im tempted to go even though I wouldnt class myself as a VW enthusiast. Went to edition 38 or something with my cousin last year which was ok, but think vanfest would be more my thing :)

Vanfest was awesome everyone was so nice and freindly it was like being on a different planet and there was loads to do.

The night time partys are cool aswell.

On the second morning i sat on top of my camper and looked accross the site and all you could see for miles was people chilling outside there vans and the smoke from bbqs cooking breakfast rising into the sky.
I sat up there for a good hour drinking tea and smoking weed it was one of the most chilled moment of my life.

I see loads of them all summer, and I sit in the odd one or two when they visit our local beach.
