I'd like to put forth some new ideas here. Everyone's always talking about Bush and Kerry, but they are both full of shit, and everyone knows it. I'd like to put forth the idea of actually voting for WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN, instead of simply changing your own beliefs so that you can buy into the bullshit 2 party system. I'm talking about the Green party, the Libertarian party, the Constitutional party. ANd yes, there will be those of you that say "Well, if you vote for one of those parties, it's a wasted vote". All I have to say to that is, I did not have to change myself in order to vote for something I did not believe in.
Throwing your vote away is a "new idea"? It's been around practically since the start of the country. Look at the 1824 election. Anyway, if you really want to change the system, you aren't going to accomplish it by voting for Donald Duck or Ralph Nader or any other third-party candidate. You should vote in the primaries for candidates who favor changing the electoral system (Howard Dean, Joe Lieberman, John McCain) and work to get them elected. If you can convince enough people that reform is necessary, then more candidates will suddenly "see the light" on the issue of electoral reform as it becomes more politically popular to do so.
well, do we have those good candidates running? No. I'm going to vote for what I believe in, simply. If you want to change your own opinions or views so you can feel like your 'part of a majority', then please do so.
People who "voted their conscience" or "I voted my hopes not my fears" in 200O GOT their fears......Bush. There is a choice of two guys. You can "vote your conscience" and fuck it up for yourself and everybody else, OR you can vote your conscience and get Bush out of office. That is all there is. There is no place for idealism now.
Do you honestly believe either candidate is different? They are both sponsered by the same corporations. Come on now. But what I guess I'm trying to say is that the 2 party system is such a joke, you might as well vote your conscience because it doesn't really matter anyway.
Riiiight.... I'm sure if you people had voted for Gore instead of Nader in 2000, Gore would have invaded Iraq, fucked up the environment, and denied gays as many rights as possible. I bet that somewhere deep inside yourself, even if you won't admit it, you know as well as the rest of the country that there IS a big difference in the two parties.
Yes. If you paid attention to what they said and have done, instead of weird conspiriacy theories, you might think so, too.
No, I see the logic of what yall are saying. It's just, that I am only going to cast my vote for what I personally believe in, which is the Libertarian party.
You have the right to do so. I have the right to not agree. Thank God (LOL) we both have those rights.
Well, MD is a swing state with right now a 7 % edge for Kerry, which might be erased by your voting your conscience, and contribut to bush's win, simply because of the state you live in. I think you should consider strategic voting, vote pairing or vote swapping as it's been variously called. That's where you pledge to vote for Kerry in exchange for someone in a hugely Republican state voting the Libertarian vote. Right now there are more than 4,000 Utahns who could make a huge impact on the 2party system if they are paired with swing staters, people who are normally Demo tickets. Please please check it out for yourself at www.votepair.org Tank ya Jaysus! Oops, I mean God Becca
Seeing as he is all knowing, all powerful, and omnipresent -- I'm gonna have to go with God on this one. If for no other reason than living my life with integrity and listening to my heart. The constructs of reality as a whole are made up from our hearts and minds. We are the most creative force in the universe, so I choose to exercise my birth right and make decisions based on integrity and love, rather than letting fear and ignorance reign my mind. (no insult intended for Kerry/Bush supporters, I also respect everyone's individual choices) Bush is an EXTREME TOOL, while Kerry (Bush's distant cousin, schoolmate, and secret society brother), is just a REGULAR TOOL. In comparison to the extreme, the regular is appealing, but to deny the fact that they are both tools does nothing to help democracy. I don't hate people that vote for Kerry, as I said, a REGULAR TOOL is better than an EXTREME TOOL, but the battle between the regular and extreme tools is designed to skew our perception and limit our possibilities of true action and evolution, and when that happens no one wins. Kandahar: I agree in theory but there are forces at work greater than the primaries that have interest's in who wins the elections. And as far as the candidates you listed, I highly doubt any of them truly wanted any real reform that would generate positive results for society as a whole. I'd like to hear why you believe them. Maggie Sugar I'm sorry Maggie but that is a COMMON MISCONCEPTION that is in reality NOT TRUE. For the summary of why that is not true and how Gore actually would have won florida -- in a lively and scary(red & black) flash presentation -- follow this link: http://www.ericblumrich.com/gta.html Read more in detail here about the facts: http://www.takebackthepresidency.com/statement-frameset.html http://democrats.com/display.cfm?id=239 BobbinBecca, I took a look at the vote pair website. according to them, California is a safe Dem state so voting nader basically won't hurt anything -- ALTHOUGH, I wouldn't be surprised if Bush got the Cali vote simply because of Bush's connections with Enron's and Arnolds connections with Enron, both are big on big business and big business is big on riggin' elections. *yay* for electronic voting machines. Either way, I agree, voting your conscience and your heart is what a true democracy is about. Anything less is not democracy.
I agree ten times over with the fisrt poster. I will not give my vote away. I would rather not vote then vote for someone I don't want. I'll put my vote in for neather kerry nor bush and I'll feel fine doing it. And when one of them is president and does a crappy job I can honestly say I didn't vote them in.
I'm not really sure if you were listening to my post. I put forth the theory that it does not matter whether you vote for Bush or Kerry. They are both sponsered by the same people. All I'm saying is stay true to yourself, and vote for who YOU believe in. See, if everyone would just do that, we wouldn't be stuck in this 2-party mess.
I was listening to your post, sorry to be pushy, just trying to be a missionary for votepairing. I wish it could be as you say with everyone voting their best possible candidate, however, "everyone" as a whole are slow to accept change or embrace it, so I jump on the "slow farts to change" bus that will hopefully take us to your Utopian dream.
Voting for a repulicrat, the one party that appears to be two, will not heal what needs to be healed, it will just continue the negative patterns that cause pain and suffering in our world. You see, they work for the same Beast, I'm not saying it's a huge conspiracy... it's just the result of all these things changing and moving, money, power, greed, business interests, competition, using resources... it unified into a global structure that rules pretty much, even "terrorism" which seems outside of the military industrial complex, it is actually part of it, furthering the need for funding the war-oil-drug machine... Legal, illegal, these things mean nothing to the people at the top of the system. What they understand is the system. And operating it to achieve profit. They forget that our actions will carry with them much chaotic pain towards our mother earth and its people... We all operate in this system, doing our little parts, and not many see the whole picture. Those that do, have power, or at least see the potential for that power. There are those that are progressive and want to change it, to make it work for the earth and its people, yet when those that rebel so far against it, take such a risk. And they can end up killed... people like JFK, he wanted to end the cold war, get us out of vietnam, destroy the CIA(American terrorist organization), and basically take our world in a new direction... Yet he pissed off so many people, including people that put him into power. The nature of the system, is that corruption occurs during the climb to the top, so therefore everyone at the top, has already be through indoctorinated in the way of the system, the corruption. Yet JFK decided to do certain things, and got shot... a coup in America. So now, we have this voting thing that comes along, presented to the people by for the most part the mainstream media, which treats it like a horserace, like a football game, with beer and popcorn for everyone. And they keep the public ignorant and in a cosumeristic mood, they make the issues ones that distract and confuse... they keep you in fear. And the system throws up the "only" two choices. it's very silly. And the system is keep in "order" by the figureheads of Kerry and Bush, who do what they are told, bend things here and there, have slightly different management styles. The beast knows that if kerry is elected or if bush is elected, the system will keep its profits up, and keep the money, resources, power where they want it to be. So what do then when you understand this? Vote third party? I agree, voting for a third party candidate won't change the political system, but it will help change the consciousness of America. By spreading the understanding that we can vote for who we think to be the best! Still, we have been brainwashed into thinking that one vote really matters, and voting is important and all kinds of shit like that. No offense, but look around you, you are connected to everything in the universe, the best thing you can do is be a statement of your very own being... Gandhi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world." We have the problems we do now, because we got caught in all kinds of greed, hate, violence, materilistic, trips that lead to more and more trouble. Karmic flowingings you might say. By evolving our consciousness to that which feeds us, inside and all around, then we can began to see, hear... as we still and quiet our minds... we can see how it is, and relax into our being. Then we can start to build a world where we can share our energy... A utopian sort of society will not emerge through changing the political system or economic system... but by changing the way we think, percieve, and understand reality. Once we think, act, love, be and realize that we are one. Then the harmony that already exists will become obvious. So the only way out is in, a cosmic joke... Be and then See. "I've been thinking about our fortune And I've decided that we're really not to blame For the love that's deep inside us now Is still the same And the sounds we make together Is the music to the story in your eyes It's been shining down upon me now I realize Listen to the tide slowly turning Wash all our heartaches away We're part of the fire that is burning And from the ashes we can build another day" -Moody Blues It will be ok.
Damn you said it all there man. Oh yea, my Hindu friend told me not to listen to your mad ravings. I'll try not to listen to them, you madman. HA!
