    Anyone here has any experience?

It's one of those things that I want to do, and keep telling myself I'll eventually do....for years and years now.

    Volunteering for what though? :D

Because there's a big difference in volunteering for something you genuinely enjoy and then volunteering just to be helpful.

And my general answer is... if I don't enjoy it I want something out of it but if it's like something I enjoy then I have no qualms in doing so. :)

But if it's like children or looking after old people all day or something. Man. They better pay up! I'll even take food stamps.

a little bit. i've never really had enough free time to really jump into it though.

i deal with a lot of volunteers at work. most of them seem to really enjoy it, but then most of those volunteer jobs are fun jobs.

I've volunteered a number of times, but I always choose some activity that I believe in and know that I can contribute something worthwhile. In those cases, I have found volunteering to be quite uplifting and worth doing.

I volunteered at a nursing home in high school. We were able to get an elective credit senior year by volunteering somewhere the last couple of hours of the day so i guess it wasnt strictly out of the goodness of my heart.

I really liked it though, i assisted the activity director. We would take the residents out for ice cream or shopping, or arrange various social activities at the home.

I would like volunteer again somewhere but i'm not really sure where to start or what i want to do.

I volunteered at the local soup kitchen when I was younger. Also volunteered at a school to help with the special education classes.

I was forced to volunteer when I was much younger. I kinda enjoyed it, for what it's worth, since all of my friends were also doing it.

These days I find volunteering to be borderline retarded and completely asinine. The entire notion of "volunteering" is such an exclusiely whitebred middle-to-upper class concept that I simply cannot relate to it. I can think of a million better things to do with my free time than donate it to others.

Twice a year there are "beach sweeps" up and down the Jersey Shore, I try to do at least one every year.

I've also put in some time at our local food bank.

i've gopher'd at conventions. i don't feel like my health is up to doing so any more though, and its been more then a decade since the last time i did.

i 'volunteer' the 'art' i create to anyone who wants to right click on it.

so to anyone who asks, if everything were free, would i work for nothing, i sort of feel that's a hell YES, in as much as i consider myself to be already doing so.
and even though everything else isn't even free.

(though there's a hell of a lot that isn't with no good reason for it not to be, and no other reason it isn't then this idea some people have in their mind,
that someone else's disadvantage makes themselves some kind of a big deal)

You don't necessarily have to volunteer on a regular basis. Fundraisers and charitable events usually need volunteers.
