This is an example of a current band that is making outstanding music. This is a band out of Canada (Calgary, Alberta) that formed out of the ashes of another band called Women. They just released their first album a couple months ago, which I have had in constant repetition the past couple days. I am really digging this stuff a lot, which is why I included the album cover as my signature. These guys are a modern-day post-punk band, but instead of the endless revival bands that are little more than Joy Division soundalikes, the music of Viet Cong sounds as if it could have actually came out of the early 80s. They have a very beautifully bleak post-punk sound that captures the more experimental and textural aspects of post-punk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AAFewUvD8g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUHCyhE-s9M
You can listen to the full album on YouTube. The first two tracks are the weakest on the album, but everything after that is incredible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-4If_tyxC4
