I find it a big coincidence that nearly all vegetarians are female, and a lot of vegetarians are guilt ridden adolescent girls, and the majority of these types are new age self proclaimed 'pagan' mystic types. So what is it about adolescent females that makes them more likely to cut meat out of their diets?

'Once I made the connection that animals are sentient and that I was eating corpses. I stopped.'

Are all vegetarians as stupid as this? Since when did animals become sentient? Most spend all day rolling in dirt or licking their own balls, sentience implies human like intelligence. I can understand people not wanting to eat dogs, cats etc.... but chickens? Come on, Chickens are so stupid that they have been known to die of shock when seeing plastic carrier bags blowing in the wind. If you draw geometric shapes on the ground in front of them it overloads their brain. If they weren't on my plate they'd just be waddling round some farmyard pecking at bits of grain on the ground.

'We all know the truth and that it's a great way to live.'

So depriving yourself of something that your naturally mean't to eat is great? Sounds like hell to me.

Ohhh, I can't wait 'til some of the guys see this! Come to think of it, I can't think of very many people at all that frequent this board & fit your description! *I* am a 30 year old Christian mother. I am NOT a mystic, and I ougtrew my teens well over a decade ago. And I am vegetarian.

Everyone has a different reason for choosing not to eat meat, but most of the people here have made that decision based on either health issues or a desire to help fight standard animal farming practices which are cruel and wrong.
    love,

It's probably what I like to call the "pussy" factor. Men don't want to be seen as pussies, so having compassion towards other living things is often seen as a weakness, when in fact it is a strength.

What are you, an idiot? Use a fuckin' dictionary before you shit out of your mouth.

    "sen·tient Audio pronunciation of "sentient" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (snshnt, -sh-nt)
    adj.

    1. Having sense perception; conscious: “The living knew themselves just sentient puppets on God's stage” (T.E. Lawrence).
    2. Experiencing sensation or feeling.
    "

I guess you're the stupid one, huh?

    WHO MADE THEM THAT WAY?

Chickens are pumped up with steroids to MAKE them stupid, compliant, fat, and die of shock, you moron! The same goes with cows! Do you think cows are all so dumb as a brick because they were naturally that way? America is the only country that needed cow pushers on trains.

Unlike idiots like you, I have actually owned chickens, having them live in a coop in my yard. These chickens were raised by us since they were little chicks, and we bred them so that they were healthy, not fat and disgusting and filled with steroids. You would be surprised, when you saw one of my chickens flap up and tackle one of the other ones, for fun. You'd be surprised when you saw one of them pecking fleas and other parasites off of the other one's wings, and the other oen getting mad and pecking back when the first one pecked too hard. Chickens are, in fact, quite intelligent compared to many animals. Those that are healthy, that is.

We are not meant to eat meat! If we were, we would not live tens of years longer lives when we didn't eat meat! Our stomachs are not designed to process meat any more than they are designed to process rocks. We have a long intestinal tract, which is seen in herbivores, as opposed to the short ones found in carnivorous animals. Our teeth are flat -- even our canine teeth, which we have from those animals we evolved from -- have diminished to the point where they are no longer fit for eating meat. If we were meant to eat meat, we would not need to cut it first with knives!

You say "depriving yourself," but as a vegan I will live fifteen years longer than you (on average). And certainly I will live much longer than that, simply because I'm not a moron and I don't believe all the bullshit I have been fed by those trying to justify their love of meat at the expense of living creatures. You, on the other hand, will probably eat so much meat that you'll die from prostate cancer and a stroke in your early 60's.

Oh, we have another winner! Guess what everyone, he sponsors Maddox, the guy whose dick is so small that he has to make a website called "the best page in the universe" just to glorify it and make it seem big! *claps*

Of course his drivel is always funny to read.

I guess this makes me a little different. This thread may not be the best place to start, but I'm a meat eater who would really like to learn more about vegetarianism and is actually very interested in taking it up. In the last year this urge has grown very strong, as though my instinct is trying to tell me something... But I'm truly at a loss for where to begin.

At a loss for where to begin?

You couldn't be in a better place! ^_^

Start a new thread! Ask all the questions you have, there are tons of folks on here who would be willing to answer.

    That's right on.
I am 30 also, not an angst-ridden adolescent girl, heterosexual and non-pagan.

Maybe you could enlighten me as to why some meat eaters feel the need to come to places like this, act all defensive, sarcastic, and rude, and try to convince vegetarians that they are wrong? I mean, why is that?

Because eating meat is all they know. It's what they've grown up with and they are threatened by anything different

oh geez, witch wars come to the veggie forum: here's one reason:
An ye harm NONE, do what thou will.
Some extend this to animals. Some don't. It's a CHOICE to lessen killing.

    We all kill to eat
    Everyone: vegan, fruitarian, everyone.
the hairsplitting comes with where do you draw the line? for fruitarians it is at microbes in fruit and on seeds. For vegans it is plants, Vegetarians live at some level of comfort or discomfort with using animal labor, egg and milk products (which took plants to produce), and perhaps byproducts of insects.
WE ALL KILL! so we really have no ground to be self righteous. Those who kill more may have a level of guilt (If I had a dollar for every "well, I don't eat much meat/ only eat fish-chicken/ I need to cut down" I'd be typing from a paid-for home in the mountains.) that motivates them in a few ways: to be conscious of what they eat, a noble goal for all people; to simply let that guilt nag at them and then blame the person who eats plants for their suffering; to actively launch a justification campaign, complete with screaming carrots and mangled meadow mice from those nasty combines (which harvest the same plants to feed cattle, lambs, poultry and pigs). Some actually might become veg, or at least attempt it.

for practising vegheads, there are as many reasons as there are veg*ns.
One person may have texture issues with flesh, or smell issues. Another may truly believe it is a sacrifice for a cause (note the what to you do when you miss meat threads), others truly believe their deity wants all animals to live, or that there are karmic retributions for taking an animal life.
Some think HOW we raise animals is wrong and want out of the cycle to ease their own mind and make a slight economic knock.
Some just know it's the only way they will eat healthily: to take flesh out of the circle of options.
But whatever our reasons, we are doing something we see as a positive change. Some personal, some wider.

Health reasons, environmental reasons, ethical reasons... hell, even world hunger issues! There are many reasons to go veg & it doesn't all pertain to feeling equal to animals.

I personally began my vegetarianism because I cared about the environment; but I've actually found total and complete respect for animals and I find it each and every day that I pull out the nuts & beans. Yes, I do feel "at one" with all animals... because we are animals... and I'm proud to say that. Hell yeah, I'm a teenaged girl but I'm not a dumbass. I have definite reasons to back up my opinions.

I'm a vegetarian because it makes me happy and I couldn't see it any other way.
