    I am an omnivore.

Although, from what I understand, they are taking omnivore out of the vocabulary and turning carnivore into omnivore...because apparently there are no animals that ONLY eat meat. Not even the dinosaurs (how they got that information is beyond me)

But I love meat way too much to give it up...even after all the horrid things I'm learning about it in school...so I'm just cutting back on red meat and eating other meat and more game.

that seems like a silly thing to do. there are no unicorns, but there's still a word for the concept of it.

Out of the blue, meat just started tasting bad to me 10 or 12 years ago. I eat some chicken now and then.

I've often wondered what sort of chutzpah/nerve/courage and skill it takes to sneak up on and murder a carrot. See "Secret Life of Plants".

What the hells to do with meat gravy if there's no veggies to smother? :cowboy:

    Meats nothing without vegetables.

Though if I had to chose one over the other I'd definitely take veggies

I was a vegetarian for 2 years. My younger brother and sister followed in my footsteps and are STILL vegetarians...I eat meat now but I'm really picky about it. I prefer beef over chicken, haha. And I won't eat ham - hate it! Blech!

I still like my veggies though!!!!

#2 son has been vegan since he was 15. He is now 6'6",225 and works hard at roofing. He knows how to do it properly so as to get the nutriants he needs. Hasn't hurt him any. I tried veganism for a while, but I likes me cheese. The slaughterhouse that was closed for mistreating the animals(Hanford ,Cal) near my hometown in California is the one I took a little tour of when I was a teenager in the 50s---changed the way I looked at eating meat. They were stringing 'em up and gutting them before they were dead,in some cases. Bad.

  17. Don't eat meat or fish but am rather fond of goat's cheese* and milk!
    * not that horrid white stuff though - proper hard cheese

Omnivore, Carnivore, and Vegetarian: Inaccurate Terms

"Omnivore" and "carnivore" describe one's physiological disposition, rather than one's ideological choice: an omnivore is an animal, human or nonhuman, that can ingest both plant and animal matter, and a carnivore is an animal that needs to ingest flesh in order to survive.

Carnism is the invisible belief system, or ideology, that conditions people to eat certain animals. Carnism is essentially the opposite of veganism; “carn” means “flesh” or “of the flesh” and “ism” denotes a belief system. Most people view eating animals as a given, rather than a choice; in meat-eating cultures around the world people typically don’t think about why they find the flesh of some animals disgusting and the flesh of other animals appetizing, or why they eat any animals at all. But when eating animals is not a necessity for survival, as is the case in much of the world today, it is a choice - and choices always stem from beliefs.

The invisibility of carnism makes eating animals appear to be simply a matter of personal ethics, rather than what it actually is: the inevitable end result of a deeply entrenched, oppressive system. Carnism is structured like other “isms,” such as racism, sexism, and heterosexism, which are organized around the oppression of certain groups of “others.” And while the experience of each set of victims will always be somewhat unique, the ideologies themselves are structurally similar, as the mentality which enables such oppression is the same.
