That's quite good. vegetrainaism in the UK is a different story. It experienced a surge in the 90's owing to a neo-hippy kind of movement, which saw interest in environmentalism, vegetarianism etc, and also because of the BSE crisis. However, the popularity of vegetarianism has waned slightly, although the vegetarian society insists that vegetarianism as a lifestyle is still influential, to the extent of many people becoming "meat-reducers"

But as far as I'm aware, i nAmerica, vegetarianism is experiencing a huge surge, and I think that's great. Although, from what I gather, vegetarinaism doesn't command the same level of respect in America as it does in Britain. But hopefully, that will change for the better!

You mean in Europe altogether. In Germany many people respect your choice of being vegetarian. While in America they think your strange because you don't eat meat, so they make fun of you and crap. They aren't as Organic/ecologicaly/biodynamicly, WHATEVER, oriented in the US. Like, 60% of America doesn't even KNOW what it is.
unlike here, when you go to a pub ro reastaurant here you'll often see things like: WE USE ORGANIC APPLES!
or: Try our local farmer's BRATTWURST!!!!

how could you not notice that? Every few days or so we get things like:
"I want to be vegitarian...but..." or " Planning to joining into the vegetarian lifestyle".
All this made me curious, so I googled it and came up with this article! :D

i ran into a guy at the suppermarket yesterday. i was looking at bread...and i had vegan products in my cart...bannanas, apples, vegan bocas, tempeh (yum!)...and the guy asked if i was vegan...i said yes...then he told me about something in bread...ican't remember what its called but it has basically animal parts in it...Sodium lac... anyways...i ended up buying bakery bread and hubby says we'll make our own bread from now on.

I always figured that it was just people coming from all over the place, and in comparison with how many people use the internet i figured the number of people asking on this board was relatively small. I did notice a lot of people in my area going veggie but I didn't think it was a worldwide thing, it makes me very happy :):)

It's enlightning to hear there may actually be a chance to save this planet before it's gone. Everybody who's gone veggie knows it does clear your thinking. Speaking of thinking, maybe free-thought should spread the world next. With so many people, and how poeple like to do things in trends, it shouldn';t be long before there;s a chance to topple over the omni and force him into change. There's great law already available in the u.s. In Wisconsin, everything born alive is considered a human being (look up definition of "human being" by using the index of the wiscons statutes. Technically, then, meat companies like oscar mayer's are guilty of murder. But what's an easier one, like ANY vegetarian who;s given up oh so many times of trying to convince an omnivore to stop eating meat only to be torted in the face with "I gotta have my meat", is that this tort is a behavior disorder, that most other things in life the omnivore will at least try to find a scientific explanation for when acting against in an arguement....God, just ask him if he really needs it three times a day! YUK!

a month or so ago i found out a friend of mine had stopped eating meat... something about just not being able to stomach it or something anymore. (my brother said it was a result of her being around me for so long.) last night i realized another friend (from roughly the same theater circles of friends) become a vegetarian in the last month or so. she didn't seem to realize that i didn't eat meat off the top of her head... she was down at hemp fest and saw the "meet your meat" video and decided it was time.

i've been attacked and belittled but my group of immediate non-meating eating friends is growing and that makes me happy. especially since i know that i hAve always tried not to push it down their throats or force it on tem in aggressive ways.
