This series by Anne Rice is probably the greatest I've read so far. She is no my favorite author. I'm almost finished with Interview With a Vampire, and will be working on The Vampire Lestat soon.

Anybody also read this series? Thoughts? Opinions?

I remember going to a small library in Hampstead, London, a suburb where most of the architecture is of a Victorian and Edwardian era. It was a rainy day in summer. Traditional British. I found a copy of Interview with a Vampire and sat down to read. I didn't leave the library until it closed. The atmosphere Anne Rice created of old New Orleans was as if she had lived there herself. I also liked the contrast between the two main characters. It was an interesting book, especially for its time, because it approached the nosferatu mythos from an angle never seen before. I also read another book of hers which had something to do with the devil, and although it was pleasant reading, it didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

I love the chronicles, I do agree there is this sensational mood she can put you in. She has an amazing skill for detail. Her characters are complex and her stories are one of a kind! I must tell you my favorite is The Vampire Armand. I just adore Armand, lol.

She lives in the French Quarter which, to this day, is as if time stood still for the last 100 years. Very inspiring, to say the least. When I was down there, a bunch of us snooped around her gate for a while ...until her husband drove up and scared the living piss outta us.

I liked the first 2 books, but after that I got the feeling she was turning it into another franchise. I dunno. Anyone care to comment on the later books?

no.. lol. Guess I just skipped the chronicle requirement in this thread. I've read the chronicles though... they were good, but Servant was better IMO. No vampires, just Babylonian Gods gone wrong.

Yeah...Armand wasn't that great...Merrik is eh...the end is much better than the rest of the book (but I never really liked David anyway)...and Blood and Gold is very, very good...up there on my list of the Chronicles...Pandora is pretty good too...it compliments Blood and Gold nicely... :)

No, she says it is...but it isn't at all...not like Vittorio was...I didn't like that one too much...but I did love Pandora... :)

The Blackwood Farm series is quite good...just read the Mayfair books before you read Blood Canticle (the book after Blackwood Farm)...but the books you are reading presently come first...Blackwood Farm is after Blood and Gold... :)

Interview with the Vampire still stands out head and shoulders above her other work imo......with Armand being the weakest of them all.

The Witching Hour and Lasher, were cool..

her erotic fiction (written under several penames) is pretty porno stuff, but imaginative...

    Big Anne Rice fan :)

I liked what I red, but I don't feel the need to complete the chronicles. May be I found it to repetitive.
I think I found Interview with a vampire and Lasher the most fun.

RE: She lives in the French Quarter

She lives in the Garden District.

Go to her house. Avoid the dogs. Wait for some guy in the house to walk up to you and ask if you wanna pay $10 to take a pic of the house, $50 to get in and have a look. For $150 you can be invited to an exclusive party she's hosting......

She doesn't live there anymore...she sold the house when Stan died and lives outside of New Orleans now...
