yes well im not sure how to put this exactly, but how did all of you sewers learn to sew following patterns? i mean, am i missing something because i cannot figure these patterns out. do they have like courses or something? lol
My grandmother taught me to sew and how to read patterns. There are plenty of good books out there you can check out to learn how to read patterns, if you do't want to pay for a class, which can be expensive. I prefer Kwik Sew patterns and Easy Sew patterns to anything else on the market. They are made from a sturdy paper (not that horrible tissue paper that most pattern companies use) and they are less expensive. I find that they have much easier to understand directions and are easy for beginners to follow. Also, if you do have a really hard time figuring things out, find an old piece of clothing that you really like the shape and fit of and take the seams out and use that as a pattern. That's is how I learned to do more custom made stuff for myself. If you absolutely must take a sewing class, try one through a local Bernina store. They have great classes, but run a bit high in price.
I recomend buying a simple pattern , like a simple skirt pattern or something, with few pieces and learn to read that first. Hell i've been using patterns forn years, sometimes they make fuck all sense. STILL
