Thats why I would never join any military, unless it was vital to my countries existence.

The reality is that all the militarys of the world are full of, for the most part, idiot young adults who have no real education, have no morality, are stupid, and have no sense of decency, so they turned to the military.

I have met many people in the military around where I live, and I can tell you, my 14 year old brother puts their intelligence and basic knowledge of things to shame, and my brother is a dumbass in my book.

the armed forces attract unstable people to its ranks, as long as he folows orders and more he is the model soldier. if he weren't in iraq he would probably be doing this in the usa with another puppy or maybe a person .. whatever floats his boat, he probably has a long history of doing this kind of thing. when he comes home - watch out - once someone like this has learnt the boundaries of normal existence don't apply them all sorts of strange things start happening. serial killers often practice on animals before makig their kills. it is not unusual to find "soldiers" engaging in trophy shots with people they have killed.

While that's sick, the fact he's a soldier in Iraq has no matter. I know a kid(not even a kid, he was near 19 at the time) who put a cat into a potato chip bag and suffocated it. Normally you'd think there was nothing wrong this person, worst thing he had done before that was thrown a huge party at his parents house that near wrecked the home, then he does something like this it's nothing. Fact is there are sick people everywhere.

 

I'm unsure whether this is a political issue because he is a soldier, but it's certainly grotesque.

While I don't necessarily agree with the first part of your first sentence, the rest of your post is excellent. I don't think that the armed forces seeks out unstable people, but war can certainly brings out the instability in a person. You are correct in that most inappropriate conduct is overlooked as long as the soldier follows orders.

Another good post. I agree in that if you take a sample of any population, you are sure to find deranged individuals. I know guys that have served in Iraq that have killed camels, cows, and dogs and feel no remorse. I have seen guys that detach from reality and lose a sense of moral grounding when exposed to that environment. Everybody responds different, and I think to an extent it can be a mental illness. There is definitely something wrong with someone who takes pleasure in hurting or killing an animal.

It is a moral issue. If I was this soldiers CO I would Article 133 his ass and dishonorably discharge him for Conduct Unbecoming. Personally I think more should be done, but an Article 133 is probably all you could get to stick.

I find it appalling and disgraceful that one of your soldiers, apparently, threw a puppy off of a cliff In Iraq. if this is indeed true, and you can verify the culprits identity, I urge you to punish him to the fullest extent.

Again, I urge you to not let him go unpunished, or with a mere slap on the wrist. An act of this nature deserves severe punishment.

I can say I am honored by what most soldiers do for this country, but I am ashamed to be associated with this person in any way. There is no honor in what he did.

this is why soldiers need to be drilled regularly and efficiently. a soldier needs to know what is permissible and what is not. an understanding of the geneva convention helps too regardless of the commander of chief's understanding.

a soldier is someone who is trained to kill people - rarely animals except for eating. an enemy is normally armed a puppy is not. this is the danger of accepting anyone into the armed services you start training and arming people who by their psychology should never be trained in such things.

regular drill and indoctrination helps prevent such events - from throwing puppies off cliffs to shooting civillians. being a soldier is not an open licence to kill and while such unstable personalities may be excellent mercenaries they could never be called soldiers.

I found his name, and have e-mailed the appropriate people. Some are claiming its because the puppy gave away their position and was disease ridden. So you stand on top of a cliff and throw it? Why did he have to make it suffer?
