US Planning Attack Against Iran

A year or two ago I read a bit about Iran, and it sounds like quite an interesting country. The #1 television show in the country was said to be Baywatch, and the Nabikov book "Lolita" was read in groups at the university in Tehran, so in one sense they sound far more progressive than the Former American Republic. But at the same time, they have fundies running around campuses using sticks to physically beat women who walk too fast when running late for class, because it's un-ladylike.

Maybe it's actually a good thing the "American" Christi-fascists and the islamic-fundies are at war. Because if the American and Iranian fundies ever realize that they're almost mirror images of each other, with almost no differences whatsoever- we are FUCKED.

Let me take a moment to urge readers to contact your reps in Congress. Be a pain the ass. Don't worry about being polite. Remind the bastards that We The People are PISSED.

Also, recently Iranian officials outlawed western music, everything from hiphop and rock and roll to jazz and classical. So they aren't THAT progressive. I don't keep up on these things, but I won't be surprised if those shows and books are next to be banned.

 

With the fiasco that is going on now in Iraq - the US Congress would never give the president the go ahead to attack Iran. Even if another large scale terrorist event happened in this country where clear ties can be made to Iranian involvement, I highly doubt Congress would support it. I don't doubt that Bush has a desire to invade Iran, however he's blown his chance by fucking up in Iraq.

I share the opinion of the majority in this country and feel that we should have never gone to Iraq or Afghanistan. I've been against it from the start. However, if Bush somehow showed a benefit to the US nation of imperialistic activities in Iraq, he may have gotten support to do the same in Iran. And that would have to be something major - like having mimimal civil unrest in Iraq, 95% of the troops home by now and 99 cent a gallon gasoline in this country.

 

A few months back I was lisetening to this radio talk show called "Coast To Coast am" and they had this guest on the phone,she was a witch(a good witch,well thats what she said).She said that the U.S will invade Iran sometime soon,and that she sees young Americans on the battlefield fighting a war they didn't want to fight.,cause they were Drafted.She Also mentioned that Russia does get involved.

She said she can see into the feature,and that was what she saw.

Damn I used the word SHE alot

 

The Former American Republic has a completely deranged nutcase running the show, and he's declared that first-strike attacks are okay. And he has WMDs. Will the US just nuke Iran outright?

A lot of people think so. As one newspaper columnist asked:

Will the world act- or will they wait for evidence in the form of a mushroom cloud?

 

Attacking Iran doesn't necessarily mean a full invasion. Limited tactical strikes on their nuclear facilities are a possibility. It's been done before on Iraq in the late 70s with the help of Israel.

The U.S. doesn't have much support when it comes to having the matter referred to the U.N. security council. Rice got a cold shoulder from Putin regarding that matter. As long as Iran isn't violating the NPT, there's not a strong legal basis for taking action against it.

The U.S. never got support from the security council for the invasion of Iraq either. It simply didn't have enough votes. Even if it had gotten some support for military action, it wouldn't have been for a full invasion and overthrow of a country. 1441 stated the need to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the countries in the region.

I t'ink Israel is legitimate about their concerns with Iran.
Any nuclear state whose stated goals is to push Israel to the sea would worry them. (Put yourself in their shoes, if bermuda suddenly started developing nukes and paying for suicide bombers in the US we'd have invaded long ago.)

I t'ink it'll prolly go along the lines of how Israel just attacked nuclear sites in Iraq in the late 80s...

I really hate the government of iran, and no christian fundis are in the same league as the people in charge of iran .
There have been student uprisings and the people I talk to think the country could be set for a counter revolution .
I dont know how realistic they are but I would think it would be a wonderful thing to get rid of the present theocracy .

where I would stand on a war, I dont know, I think iran is more threat than iraq which was very little immediate threat .

I wouldnt like to see them get nukes because I think the government is unstable, and sooner or later the people are going to get rid of religous rule .
and when they do having some very mad suicidal mullahs in charge of a lot of nukes could be very dangerous .

the mullahs know that if they fall, its very likely a lot of them will go on trial or just be shot out of hand .
they also will feel if the people rise up against religious rule that the people are apostate and therefore should be killed .

I could see in those circumstances the mullahs launcing a attack against their own people, the west, or isreal .

I dont think they would care about dieing themselves, as they would believe they were going to go to heaven

True. And yet they probably still have more underground newspapers than the USA, and I'd be willing to bet that more people have been penalized for illegal music in the USA (thanks to the RIAA) than in Iran, though undoubtably the penalties are harsher in Iran. It's claimed that there's so much illicit stuff done by young people in Iran that the government can't even get a grip on it, much less control it. Iran's days as a theocracy were numbered until we started threatening them, and now they're moving back towards religion as well.

 

Skip, yes, except this time there really is a threat, the Iranian people have a real reason for fear: the hostile American (leaders) are readying an attack (maybe).

We American sheep just buy into any old threat, including invented ones.

If all the West can do is threaten them, its well within their sovereign right to cut off the oil. Perhaps energies would be better spent holding our OWN governments accountable for their ACTUAL ongoing militancy and economic imperialism.

 

But that's not all the west has done. While Iran was busy calling for Israel to be wiped off the map, we were offering diplomatic solutions.

 

Iran...Why not invade North Korea?Their the ones who launched a test/dummy missle that landed in Alaska in 2001...And threaten to nuke the U.S all the time...China does as well.
