    Hi Jennifer,

It's unusual that I see your morning show, but I did so for a very short time today. I was surprised indeed to witness that your physical condition hasn't improved for many years. Surely you don't consider yourself a suitable example for this community's young people, girls in particular. Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you'll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle.”

Livingston went on-air to respond, and said to her bully on television “But to the person who wrote me that letter, do you think I don’t know that? That your cruel words are pointing out something that I don’t see? You don’t know me. You are not a friend of mine. You are not a part of my family, and you have admitted that you don’t watch the show so you know nothing about me but what you see on the outside; and, I am much more than a number on a scale.”

Livingston took the high road by addressing her bully without disclosing who he is, but this guy has stuck by what he wrote and has actually stepped up by identifying himself. Kenneth W. Krause is a lawyer and a fitness nut, and has offered to help Livingston lose weight by coaching her so she can become a healthy mentor to her viewers.

I reckon he needs to get a life. So some chick on TV is a bit tubby. Worth writing an email about? I think not.

I clicked the link expecting a whale after the rant he had...kind of disappointed to just see a normal a-bit-overweight woman.

I doubt he would have sent this to Oprah.

It was a bit much to send an email to a person who commands how many viewers? In particular - how many young viewers?

She appears to be moderately obese. This is much healthier than being morbidly obese, but it still poses long-term health risks.

I don't think his comments should be called bullying to the extent that I don't think that they were intended to bully.

Rather, they were rude and insensitive.

While moderate obesity is a public health problem, I see no reason why this woman, or any one person should be singled out.

While healthy eating habits and exercise should be encouraged, harassing obese people isn't going to help. It would likely just make them feel bad about themselves, and could lead to psychologically related health problems.

Obesity is only partially related to choice. Genetics and one's particular circumstances can come into play.

I think I would send this guy this response:

    Hi Ken,

It's unusual for me to read email comments about a tv show, but I did so for a short time today. I was surprised indeed to witness that you have remained a total asshole for many years. Surely you don't consider yourself a suitable example for this community's young people of either gender. Being an asshole is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you'll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote an asshole-free lifestyle.

The world is becoming overrun with fatties.

Hey, if I can lose as much weight as I have, anyone can... or they're just lazy and have no will power.

I think the guy should have minded his own business. A bad role model? I guess only thin women can be good role models.

Never mind what is on the inside, only the outside counts, and it has to be thin to be pretty!

    What an asshole.

regarding the title question, both. the emailer had a point, she is fat and it is better for her and a better example to be reasonably fit. but she also did the right thing, in that she went from local quasi-celebrity in asscrack, wisconsin, to world famous. great career move indeed.

It wasn't his place to do that though, he hid behind his computer. Sure, he has identified himself, but only because he would have been outed.

In his first public comments since Livingston’s on-air editorial, Krause told ABC News’ Alex Perez that his intention was not to hurt Livingston.
“If she is offended, I truly apologize to Jennifer,” Krause said.
“That’s the last thing I ever wanted to do.”
Krause admits he did not watch Livingston’s on-air editorial himself, but still empathizes with the anchor, who has said she has a thyroid condition that makes it difficult to lose weight, despite being a triathlete and a runner.

“I can empathize with that,” Krause said of Livingston’s condition. “I was obese as a child. I’ve been fighting all my life.”

I can empathise with him. I don't think his intention was to bully. His email was just ass-backwards - that's all.
Been there. Done that. Got T-Shirt. :D
