I can understand why you are upset. However you must realise that it is hardly a crime(well if it is not a hugely serious one) to urinate and blow up a piece of literature. I also doubt the CIA really cares. Basically, the guy has a point. Muslims expect all the respect in the world toward their religion and culture, but don't extend the same toward others. Burning flags and killing people is a far worse a crime than blowing up a book. Respect is earnt, not deserved. I am sick of having to tippy toe around egshells in fear of outraging the muslim minority in western countries. Also, I'm sure allah in all his greatness will get over this. I doubt allah is petty enough to give a shit.
Seriously though, muslims need to be a little less sensitive and easily outraged. Why can't you just shrug it off as some fat american retard thinking he's clever instead of thinking it's a collective US effort to disrespect islam? I am sure you a secure enough in your beliefs to accomplish this no ?
Yeah I don't think there are any laws against destroying books. Seems like this was done to try to provoke an angry reaction, surely the best thing to do would be to not give him that satisfaction
There should be a law against it, it's the ultimate disrespect. Catstevens, I can understand your anger, but let me ask you a couple of questions, do you think the flag burners should be arrested too? And the Imams that are putting bounties on the head of Kurt Westergaard?
A law against pissing on books in general or just some books? Which books would you include? Can I call the police if someone were pissing on Pride and Prejudice if that were my favourite book? Seperation of church and state would seem to require that there can be no such "blasphemy" laws. Freedom would require that people are free to cause offence with symbolic acts like this if they're not harming anyone. The grown up thing to do would be to just ignore them.
Yup. I'm sorry, though I think one should not do these things, I fear more a law that says you cannot.
Haha, nice one. No there shouldn't be a law against pissing on Pride and Prejudice, but I strongly believe in respect where it's due, and think urinating on holy books is wrong and should be against the law. I'm not talking about giving them life, but they should be prosecuted. Just my opinion.
It's fuckin' paper and ink. Get over it. The only thing the guy (I'm guessing since the links don't work) could be arrested for is public urination if he did it in public. If not, then he has the freedom to urinate on whatever book he wants in the US be it The Bible, The Koran, Green Eggs and Ham, or 101 Ways to Urinate on a Book. Edited to add: I should add that the book has to be his, or he could be charged with destruction of someone else's property.
That's really the point I was raising ... you have to define "holy". The "sacred" nature of certain books is entirely subjective. There's no essential property of any particular book that makes it "holy", it's a question of how you view it. If my faith happened to be based around Delia Smith's Christmas Cookbook then I could quite properly call for such a law to apply to the desecration of that book. The only sensible way of going about it is to treat all books the same, and it's pretty nonsensical to make it an offense to destroy a book, assuming it's yours and you're not endangering, threatening or harming anyone, you can do what you like with it! I'm quite happy that we have that freedom. Such freedoms are important things to safeguard.

Kay. It seems to me that, while highly offensive (and deliberately so), things like this neither incite hatred in the legal sense nor represent the opinions or stance of any nation, but rather those of individuals. Interestingly throughout the whole Mohammed-cartoon debacle, it seemed to be a pattern that those protesting continually blurred or misunderstood the distinction between a state and its citizens. You can't hold a nation responsible for the actions of an individual or a group; individuals and groups are free to act as they please within the law. Interestingly, failing to make this distinction is to make the same mistake as those who paint Islam as a terrorist religion because of the actions of some Muslims.
expandin on your point lithium ...by the same token, the actions of a few individuals or groups ie, the alleged involvement of 19 arabs/al-qaeda/bin laden/saddam/mullah omar cant be havin 1.5billion muslims around the world playin defensive to the offense being showered from all corners of the 'free-thinkin-democratic driven-western values' so ..for when the western governments demand apologies from the political, dictatorial, religious leaders (in arabic) for the actions of a few, it sounds just as ridiculous, but that dont stop them from doin it
We can also reflect on Andres Serrano's "Piss Christ" and the portrait of dung Virgin Mary. These art works are considered free expression. We can also reflect of the bomming of mosques and funeral processions in Iraq, by thier own countrymen ? ! ? ! Asholes and flamers are everywhere, grow a thick skin. Big time desecrators WILL get busted though, happens all the time.
This doesn't really make any sense. Of course many people make the mistake of thinking that the actions of a few reflect the stance of everyone, on both sides. That's what I said. It's one of the cornerstones of prejudice. But making that mistake, and causing offense, is not a crime, nor should it be. Who demanded apologies from any religious or national leaders for the acts of a few? Quite the opposite, it's widely recognised that Islamic extremism is a minority which doesn't represent most Muslims. Western leaders go out of their way to restate that at every opportunity.
RE: It's fuckin' paper and ink. Get over it. The only thing the guy (I'm guessing since the links don't work) could be arrested for is public urination if he did it in public. It is and it isn't - hey, try burning a US flag in some redneck parts of the country, arguing that it's just a piece of cloth, and you'll get your medical record closed.
True. It just means that their just as short-sighted though. I love the Christians who don't want the flag burned--nothing like Pagan garment worship to brighten my day.
Was there a reason you posted this Catdaddy? The links you provided in your opening post do not even function. If you are so pissed off, pun intended, then why don't you make the effort to explain yourself properly and the next time you start a thread bitching about how a BOOK written by an ILLITERATE man is treated... at least take the time to make sure your "examples" are provided before you stomp off pouting. I'm sure you think this post is irrelevant and you will ignore it, remember, this words I am typing are a direct result of your first "non-functional" post. btw, look! a crack-rapper shit on Jesus Christ. My best advice is to shut up and deal with it, if it were not for the Muslim's being so Goddamned GREEDY life would be different. Spiritually, you must have it all, so realistically, YOU ARE GOING TO GET IT ! The bad news is there won't be much left to claim, don't bother being cooperative now. It's too funking late!
