What if, as well as being able to vote for a party in an election, you could also 'unvote' for them. Instead of adding one to their vote count, you subtracted one. I'd certainly turnout to vote at least once if they did that.
I'm not sure about that. However, I have long thought that the ballot should have a none of the above section.
Of course it would never work. For a start most parties would probably finish around the zero mark, which is ideally what I would want.
Worse yet, in a presidential election if a majority pick none of the above, Congress would most likely select the next president.
Not in resent times. However, the supreme court has. We think that we elect our president. I believe the media elects our president. Nether party gave us a candidate worth voting for. If you look back at the coverage of the primary race, read some of the news that was written at the time you will see that the media did all they could to undermine most all candidates except there hero. One of the problems with this political system is that people get there information from sound bits, and not from the substance behind the sound bit. The media spins these sound bit to appear to mean whatever they want them to be. And, the electric is too lazy to look for the truth, too naive not to believe the media.
I'm not sure I understand your question. "Who decides who stands for the presidency in the first place?" If you mean who decides who will run for the office of the president. Again, I believe it is the media. A lot of ego involved individuals who think they have what it take to do the job file to run. The media then decides which of these people they think should be president. You don't need to believe me, just read the news articles written at the time. See for yourself who the media put down, and who they held up. Look at the poll taken then and see how they changed with the news articles printed. The media leads us by the ring in our nose. The ring has a name: "Gullibility".
