350,000 people from around the country were bused to D.C. by the White House advance team. This photographs depicts the crowd of Nixon supporters that congregated near the Lincoln Memorial for the Honor America Day event
Washington, D.C. police attempted to contain the counter- demonstrators to an area just outside of the seated audience of Honor America Day attendees before riots broke loose and tear-gas was launched into the crowds of protesters
I used to be quite the activist when I was younger. A friend heard about the protest so four of us hopped in a car and drove to Washington. Earlier that year we went to Kent State and got tear gassed. No tear gas in Washington but I saw a few protesters gt bashed by cop's billy club. I wanted to go to Woodstock but wife was six months pregnant and vetoed the trip.
I was just amazed at what I found. I learn so much on this thread. I am sure in the UK they were burning bras or something around that time. I will add more when I have time to find the most unusual photos.
