I dunno what's 'underground', but I like Jurassic 5, Mos Def, early Outkast, Dilated Peoples, The Pharcyde

 

all mainstream. underground is basically either unsigned artists or ppl signed with indie labels trying to make it up, but no one has really heard of them and the only gigs they get are for little money, or none at all.
