UN chief lauds India's COVID-19 vaccine assistance to nations

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres applauded India for supplying COVID-19 doses to nations around the world to combat the catastrophic global health crisis.

"I would like to say how much we count on India. I mean, India has one of the most advanced pharmaceutical industries. India played a very important role in the production of generics for use that was a very important element of democratisation of access to medicines all over the world," Guterres said.

"And we strongly hope that India will have all the instruments that are necessary to play a major role in making sure that a global vaccination campaign becomes possible. I think that the production capacity of India is one of the best assets the world has today, and I hope the world understands that it must be fully used," he said.

India has assisted more than 150 countries through urgent health and medical supplies. New Delhi has pledged 15 million dollars for GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, and operationalised the COVID-19 Emergency Fund for its neighbours with an initial contribution of 10 million dollars.

Global military expenditure has increased to around two trillion dollars annually.

It just shows the wrong priorities of humanity and that we are allocating resources for the wrong causes which maybe counterproductive in the long run. It also shows the ineffectiveness of the UN as well which has failed to create a cohesive unit of humanity which would have allocated resources to the right priorities and causes.

For example, artificial meat created in laboratories is a good concept considered feasible but lacks enough funding, and hence consequently is behind other well-funded technologies.

If this scheme had a fraction of the global military expenditure, it could have blossomed into a technology that would create artificial meat in large quantities at cheaper prices all over the world.

This would have greatly reduced or eliminated livestock farming which is associated with ethical concerns and correlated higher crime rates, and which takes up a huge amount of land and water per calorie of food compared to crops, and in terms of greenhouse emissions, is as bad as burning fossil fuels.

The artificial meat factory - the science of your synthetic supper

The coronavirus epidemics in the present and past, along with the spanish flu and other deadly epidemics are speculated to have originated in livestock farms and unhygienic slaughterhouses. The present coronavirus epidemic have resulted in a loss of around 9 trillion dollars to the global economy within a year ( IMF estimates ) along with around 2.5 million deaths and there seems to be no sign of this epidemic ending in the near future.

India today is one of the most underrated nations in the world.
The west should do a lot more trade with them, rather than sending all their money down a one way street to China.
